56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2019
Summer season is just around the corner with longer hours on the
courts and many tournaments to look forward to. With our very hot
summers it is important for players to take a few precautions while
playing on our courts, especially while competing in tournaments.
It's important to recognize the symptoms of dehydration/heat
exhaustion: Feeling dizzy, shaky, nauseated, having a rapid heartbeat
and rapid breathing, a headache, and/or feeling faint.
If you experience any of these symptoms, stop playing immediately!
Let someone know you are feeling symptoms of dehydration. Get out
of the heat, sit down and hydrate. Don't shrug off the early symptoms.
You can get into trouble very quickly. Hydrate at regular intervals with
Gatorade, Pedialyte and/or water. While competing it's easy to think
you don't feel dehydrated, but that is very misleading. Remember, in
a tournament each team has two time-outs of one minute each. Don't
hesitate to take the time-outs if needed.
On the home front, many of you participated in a training day with
Mary Barsaleau. The class was informative and she made learning
fun. There were drills, playing tips and games at the end of the
sessions. It was quite the workout!
Come on out and join us to see what all the fun is about. Hours
of play are posted outside of the courts and in the Breeze magazine.
