58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2019 Three-Thirteen Dominoes Seasons change and years pass before you can become the domino champ. The domino champ for the month of May was me, Marvin Gaines, who won with 22 wins, beating out John Bragg with 20 wins and Reggie Fuqua with 19 game wins. Just like an earthquake, I shake things up every once in a while. It takes a lot of skill and sometimes good luck to be the champ. Congratulations to me and all of the other domino players. The quarterly one-on-one playoffs for the personalized trophy started the last week of May. The battle for the championship was a lot of fun. Everyone was playing their best game trying to win the trophy. Reggie and Marvin were going toe to toe, just like Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier in the "Thriller in Manila," but neither one of them won. Marvin beat Reggie and Dean Delaney beat him and played against Robert Turner in the final round. Robert beat Dean and won the personalized trophy. Congratulations to Robert and all of the players that participated in the playoffs. The next one-on- one quarterly domino playoff will be in September, so get ready for another fun battle. Dominoes are played every Wednesday and Friday from 5 to 9 pm in The Lodge Game Room. Practice is from 5 to 6 pm on both days. Come out and join us, have some fun, and make some new friends. Jesse Dimmer is usually available to give you help and tips on the game of dominoes if needed. For more information, call Jesse at (951) 769-2035 or Reggie at (951) 769-6483. ~ Marvin Gaines "Out, out, out, out…" is all they heard from Lynette Smilac, according to her table mates during a recent game of Three-Thirteen. And judging by her score — 39 — we can see why! Newbie or not, Lynette was the low scorer for the month. Congratulations and because of that score, you no longer need to be at the training table. Joking aside, congrats to our other low scorers Beverly Lunetta, Caryn McSweeney, Frances Monahan, Kaye Harvey, and Roxanna Morrow. Three-Thirteen is played in 11 rounds. A cross between rummy and Phase 10, players meld, using sets and runs. The first player to go out receives no points. Then the remaining players play their cards on those laid down and/or their own. Each round uses a progressive wild card, from 3s to Kings. The lowest score wins — just ask Lynette the next time you see her. Anyone interested in playing this fast-paced game, please join us at The Lodge Game Room from 3 to 5 pm on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.
