42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2019 "For the love of a child" is the motto at Childhelp® Merv Griffin Village for abused, neglected, and at-risk children. Located in Beaumont just one mile west of Four Seasons, the facility houses 84 foster children ages five to 14 in cottages on a 121-acre ranch with horses and other farm animals. The facility also contains a non- public school with a gymnasium and a pool. The AACC's club president is Joyce Allen. Her vision is to see the club evolve into a more social and volunteer group to plan more outings and aid our community based charities. In 2017, the AACC held a luggage drive for Childhelp® and in 2018 a backpack drive. We also purchased stuffed animals for the children for Christmas. Our past campaigns were very successful and proved that the AACC and the residents of Four Seasons are making a positive impact on the lives of abused, fostered children in our city. Every year new children arrive at The Village with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They are required to go through an intake process which includes providing each child with donated personal items. For this year's campaign, the AACC would like to sponsor an Intake Project. The AACC will be collecting bicycle helmets, stuffed animals, and additional school supplies for Childhelp® residents. There will be three separate donation containers placed in the entry of The Lodge from Aug. 6 through 23 to facilitate our cause. We are asking the residents of Four Seasons for their continued support for this program to be a success. Upcoming events include the Labor Day Celebration on Monday, Sept. 2, and the Christmas Gala on Saturday, Dec. 14. The AACC typically meets on the first Monday of each month. However, we will not be meeting in August. For the month of September, we will be having a Labor Day Celebration at The Summit from 11 am to 6 pm. Here are some things to consider: Ham Radio: • Can provide you with fast and reliable information in an emergency. • Doesn't necessarily rely on a big technical infrastructure (like cell phones) to guarantee operation in a disaster situation - powering up is all you need to do to communicate. • Is a learning experience - you'll keep your brain sharp getting your license and maintaining your operating skills. • Gets you into a community of people who maintain relationships in a collegial and social environment (come to our meetings and see). • Isn't expensive to get started - you can be up and on the air for less than $100. The Four Seasons at Beaumont Amateur Radio Club meets at 10 am the last Friday of every month in the Conference Room at the RCN. Come to our meeting and see what it's all about. ~ Jim Peterson, jimsally@hotmail.com, (858) 442-1230 RADIO CLUB
