12 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2019 | Garden Club All residents are welcome to attend our general meeting on the second Wednesday of each month in Abravanel Hall beginning at 9:30 am for refreshments and socializing. Stop at the greeters' table for a nametag and to pick up a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the beautiful plants that we give away each month. If you want to sign up for membership or for volunteering, stop at our hospitality table. Also, check out the sharing table outside the double doors by the stage. You may find that perfect plant to fill a spot in your garden. The Garden Club will be accepting names for those of you who would like to serve on the board of our wonderful club. The board meets monthly on the third Wednesday of the month. If interested, contact Mary Kay Murray at (909) 747- 8748 or email at marykay.murray@gmail.com The General Meeting will be Wed., Sept. 11. We are very fortunate to have Rachel Cohen as our September speaker. Rachel is the creator and owner of Infinite Succulent, a botanical styling, art and educational service dedicated to reconnecting people with nature. She obtained a Masters Degree in Marine Conservation from Scripps Institute of Oceanography and is the author of the succulent craft book, Infinite Succulent: Living Art to Keep or Share. Rachel will be telling us her story of how she learned about the health benefits of gardening and working with plants while going through a health issue of her own. She will also teach us the fun techniques of working with and caring for succulents to create an artful design. And, of course, there will be time for questions and answers. And, Rachel will bring copies of her book - just in case. Upcoming Events Remember, the Garden Club will have its Annual Plant Sale on Sat., Sept. 21 which coincides with the OHCC Annual Flea Market. So plan on coming and purchasing some beautiful plants and garden related supplies. If you have any plants or garden materials (pots, ornaments, etc.), consider donating them to the Garden Club for the plant sale. Please call Mary Kay Murray at (909) 747-8748 or Carolyn Hunter at (801) 580-2495. And, keep watching your Garden Club newsletter for upcoming workshops in succulent design and creating holiday centerpieces. And remember when planting a new plant – first it sleeps, then it creeps, then it leaps!
