| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2019 | 13 Did you remember that Aug. 9, was National Book Lovers Day? I did and I bought a book. Summer is almost over but we have plenty of pool time left which usually means reading time! I know most of you are like the committee. We carry books everywhere. Waiting in a doctor's office isn't stressful when you're finally on the verge of finding out who did it. And, if you go to lunch as a single, you are never alone if you are reading. Thank you Four Seasons residents, we have been receiving so many current 2018-2019 books lately, and, great 2017 paperback books. If you haven't been down to our library please come and see our new books. I just couldn't wait any longer for the Where the Crawdads Sing book to be donated. I bought the book to donate to our library. The committee members are often the ones who buy current best sellers. Our hardbound fiction books are displayed from 2010-2019. If they are below the 2010 date we donate them to different places. Actually, as of late, we have been donating books to the San Jacinto High School library. We accept and display paperbacks from 2014-2019. Have you checked out our non-fiction recently? We have quite a collection and the biographies are once again displayed in alphabetical order. We don't know how long it will last! Displayed on the very bottom shelf are travel books. If you are heading to Texas check that section to see if we have current information on the area you're heading to. Please don't forget our audio books. If you are bringing books that represent a series we just cannot keep them together. I had to donate my series of Janet Evanivich's books which began with One for the Money. The book was at least 19 years old. We do a great job of using the space we have but we do have limits. The magazine rack waxes and wanes. We will have a huge variety and then be depleted all in the same week! If you subscribe to magazines please bring them down when you finish reading them. We display three months. July-August-September are current, but we also take the older ones downtown. They give them out free of charge. Free is always exciting! Once again hold off on National Geographic's. We have so many. In last month's Herald magazine I asked for your opinion about audio books being discontinued. We care about your thoughts. Leave a message at the front desk for Cookie and I'll share your thoughts with the committee. The movies to be checked out at the front desk are just wasting space. Have you asked for one in 2019? September is our official "back to work. " Though we have been busy in the library keeping it together, we have not had formal meetings. We're off and running now. Author George Gurney will be speaking at Four Seasons on Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. This has been a well- received function so plan on being there. You can google George to see what his books are like. Please remember, our library works on the honor system. All books are the property of Four Seasons and have been purchased by our residents. Please respect this. Thank you. Until next month lose some sleep and keep reading that book! Thoughts from Blair, "Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation." Walter Cronkite Committee member Julie read The Light of Paris by Eleanor Brown Madeleine is trapped in an unhappy marriage and a life she never wanted. From the outside, it looks like she has everything, but on the inside, she fears she has nothing that matters. In Madeleine's memories, her grandmother Margie is the kind of woman she should have been — elegant, reserved, perfect. But when Madeleine finds a diary detailing Margie's bold, romantic trip to Jazz Age Paris, she meets the grandmother she never knew. Despite her unhappiness, Madeleine escapes to her hometown, staying with her critical, disapproving mother. In that unlikely place, Madeleine creates her own Parisian summer. Margie and Madeleine's stories intertwine to explore the joys and risks of living life on our own terms, of defying the rules that hold us back from our dreams, and of becoming the people we are meant to be. Try reading an author you've never read before and tell us about it when you visit and we are there working. Until next month… Cookie Library Committee
