56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2019
Pickleball has been extremely busy this summer. There is so
much to discuss that it will take at least two months to cover the
recent tournaments and "firsts" that we have celebrated here at Four
Seasons.
On June 8 we had our first ever Four Seasons tournament to raise
money for research into cures for childhood neurofibromas, a cause
near and dear to the hearts of Lynn Rae and Doug Dupree. Their
extended family was there to welcome and direct folks, run the
tournament and accept donations. When the competition was over
and the last hot dog eaten, over $4000 had been raised for this cause
in our community! Sparkling medals were given at two levels in both
the men's and the women's, with the winners being decided through
rigorous competition.
Then, on June 22, in our first ever Four Seasons invitational round
robin pickle ball tournament, we had over 80 people sign up to play,
coming from throughout Southern California.
Four Seasons winners included: Women's Rotating, Tracey Laykoff,
SILVER; Women's Doubles: Kellie Biggs and Donna Lewis, GOLD;
Tracey Laykoff and Tina Soeten SILVER. Men's Rotating: John Boggs,
GOLD; Rick Von Kleist, SILVER; Men's Doubles: Dave Burchartz,
GOLD. Mixed Doubles: Karen Gabriel and Dave Burchartz, GOLD.
Congratulations to all of our Four Seasons winners in our first
open tournament!
Next month we will discuss our Fourth of July shenanigans
tournament, but in the meantime don't forget to come visit the courts
where you will find times for open play, instruction, and always
friendly faces. For info about this fast growing and fast paced sport,
