Ocean Hills Dance Troupe 16 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2019 | Our tap and jazz teacher, Yvonne Romano, has been teaching our classes now for five years. When our former tap and jazz teacher decided it was time to hang up her tap shoes, we were very worried that we would not find someone to take her place. Ellie Oakley, had been the teacher here at Ocean Hills for 20 years - so who could possibly replace her? Someone suggested that we contact Yvonne. A couple of our other dancers had worked with her over the years when they were part of another dance group. Also, a friend at La Costa Glen suggested that we call her because she was teaching a tap, jazz, and line dancing classes there. So, we did! Although Yvonne is considerably younger, we discovered that she has more than 20 years of experience teaching dance, baton twirling, and cheer classes. She even had her own dance studio when she lived in central California where her students competed and won numerous awards. In addition, she was also a Pop Warner choreography coach for six years. She has passed on her passion for dance and cheer to her own daughters. We loved her at first sight. Her enthusiasm for dance was contagious. Her creative ability to choreograph dances was outstanding. Her desire to challenge us to take on more complicated steps and combinations was daunting at first, but we were willing to try. Since Yvonne has been here at Ocean Hills, our tap and jazz classes have more than doubled in size. The newest tap and jazz students say that she has the patience of a saint, and helps them in any way she can. Some of the senior dancers also appreciate her understanding when we suffer from our occasional hip or knee problems. Yvonne is also responsible for directing our big dance shows which take place every two years. Our next show, Dancing Under the Big Top, is Yvonne's inspiration. She loved the movie The World's Greatest Showman and its music. It will truly be a unique dance show that we know the community will enjoy. Be watching for our June 2020 show! Yvonne calls us kiddies - we love that! She wants to inspire girls of all ages to be confident and develop their love of dance!
