Nice surprises we've learned in Line Dancing from the Village Line Dancers Board: • What "muscle memory" is — in time your feet are on 'autopilot." • Knowing the basic moves puts you halfway there (like grapevine, rocking chair, and shuffle). • Timing! Our teacher, Christine, has a gift… her timing of prompts for the next step is perfect. • Line Dancing is not all Country Music routines. Who knew! • Some music we learn routines to our teen grandkids know word for word! Christine picks the good ones. This ups our cool factor. • It's normal to mess up — makes us laugh actually. Check the OHCC weekly calendar for any changes, (no class on Thanksgiving) but normally scheduled classes are in Abravanel Hall at these times: Come check us out! It's a great workout for the mind and body. Observe a class or pay and participate in one or two classes before joining. Dues are $10 per person, per year and $5 for each class. | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2019 | 17 Village Line Dancers Village Squares October was a busy month for the Village Squares. On Oct. 15, our five students (Gil and Jo Gordon, Linda Drapeau, Karen Alexander, and Myrna Weber) graduated, having learned all of the mainstream and mainstream plus moves. After our traditional graduation ceremony, the club welcomed our new members with a pizza supper. Then, on Oct. 27, many of our members joined the other local clubs for the Pink Ribbon Square Dancers of California Annual Breast Cancer Benefit Dance, where we did both square and round dancing. We ended the month with our annual Halloween dance on Oct. 30. We welcomed members from all the North County clubs, whose members came decked out in fantastic costumes. Ken Bower was the guest caller, who kept us all on our toes with his inventive calling. Now, we look forward to our holiday party, where we will install our new board. Please check out our website at http://ohccvillagesquares.wix. com/villagesquares. Along with a monthly calendar of events, there are also links to other club dances in the area, videos of all the dance moves the students are learning, pictures and videos of our club events, and even a video of Sam, the square dancing dog. Any questions, please contact our president, Pete Cannon at OHCCVillageSquares@gmail.com. Line Dance Class: Mondays: Line dance is a fun way to exercise.
