30 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2019 | We walk and hike every two weeks on alternating Thursdays and Fridays. The walk is typically one and a half to two miles on relatively level terrain. The hike is usually three and a half to four and a half miles with 200 to 500 feet of elevation gain. After the hike we go to lunch together for socializing and discussion of hike/walk. On Oct. 8, we had our General Meeting, Election of Officers and Annual Picnic. There was a hike which made all who attended the picnic very hungry. There was plenty of food to satisfy the hunger and a good time was had by all. Results of the election will be discussed in next month's article. On Oct. 24, we hiked the Lower Santa Ynez Trail. On Nov. 8, we will hike Miramar Lake and Nov. 21, we hike Mission Trails-Oak Creek Canyon. The schedule and any updated information will be posted on the web at www.ohwh-club.com/walkers-hikers/schedule during the month. For each hike we meet at 8:30 am in the overflow parking lot by the Clubhouse and car pool to and from the hike. Passengers give the driver some cash for gas. Always bring water, a hat, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes. Walkers and Hikers Our next meeting will be held at our Club Party on Fri., Nov. 15. We hope that you can join us in Abravanel Hall for our "Pizza Fest." The menu includes salad, pizza, dessert, and soft drinks. You are welcome to bring your own alcoholic beverages. Doors will open at 5:30 pm, dinner will be served at 6 pm, and the OH Travel Club regular meeting and confirmation of the 2020 OH Travel Club Board will be around 7 pm. Seating is limited to 120 people, and it is open seating. The price is $8 for members. Our final trip for 2019 is on Tues., Dec. 3, when we will be traveling to the Mission Inn in Riverside for a buffet lunch followed by an opportunity to watch as over 5 million beautiful holiday lights come on. The trip is sold out, but you may sign up for the wait list at our Club Party. We are really excited to announce our first trip for 2020. On Wed., Jan. 11, 2020, we will be going to the Lawrence Welk Theater in Escondido to see one of the longest running shows on Broadway, A Chorus Line. This trip includes a pre-show three course lunch, ticket for the show, the bus, and all gratuities. We have reserved 30 tickets, so please sign up early. The price is $145 for members. Seating will be based upon receipt of your check. Additional details about our Pizza Fest and each trip can be found on the flyers at the Clubhouse. To sign up for a trip, please leave a check in the Travel Club Envelope at the front desk of the Clubhouse at any time. If you are not a Travel Club member, please add a guest fee of $5 to the price listed. To check on your status, please ask for the Travel Club Folder at the front desk of the Clubhouse to see the Trip Confirmation Sheets, which are also available at our Travel Club meetings. We do not cash checks until after the "No Refund" date. We hope to see you at our Pizza Fest and on one or more of our trips! Travel Club Genealogy Interest Group The Genealogy Interest Group is a group of individuals that want to find out about their heritage. Who were your ancestors, where they lived and what they did. The group provides tools to do your search and help in getting started or suggestions to the experienced to breakthrough a stumbling block to another generation. The Genealogy Interest Group meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 10 am to noon with a short presentation genealogical current topics and a help session answering questions the attendees have. We offer a second two hour period of individual help each month, date and time to be announced on the TAG calendar. We have available free on the computers in the lab for use of the residents, the World Explorer version of Ancestery.Com, a search engine for finding your ancestors. (Individual subscription about $100 a month.) We offer the Family Tree Maker program on several of the computers in the Computer Lab to catalog your family tree data and present your tree data. The coordinators are Dorothy Miller and Don Wirth. Help sessions will add Peggy Singh. Contact us at ohccgen@gmail.com
