42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2020 Country Line Dancing Talk about dancing your feet off! Our Country Line Dancing and More Party on Feb. 7, was terrific and very well attended. Seems like everyone knows at least the Electric Slide and the Cupid Shuffle. Besides dancing to our favorite country songs, dancers also spread their wings by dancing to some "ballroom" music and also songs from past years. It appeared that everyone was quite worn out by the time the evening ended. The thing I like best about line dancing (besides not needing a partner) is that it is so social. Not only do we get out on the floor and dance together, but we also help each other. If one person forgets a step or cannot master a step, another person comes to their rescue and helps them get it. We get to laugh a lot and, of course, talk about everything. The dancers become friends. We dance for fun. We do not expect perfection, nor are we perfect dancers. We try to adjust dances (if needed) for our age group and limitations. Dancing is exercise even though most of us don't look at it that way. It is coordinated movements set to music. Although most dances are choreographed for a particular song, most can be danced to other music as well. Once you learn the basic steps, you find that those same steps are in other songs, just in a different order. This helps your memory by forcing you to recall the correct sequence in each dance. It sounds complicated, but like anything else you learn it is taught one step at a time. Stop by on a Tuesday afternoon in the Ballroom to watch (or try) to see if you might be interested in Country Line Dancing. Any questions? Please give me a call. ~ Martha Franck, (714) 345-8588 Heart & Soul Line Dance We completed our Heart and Soul Line Dance Winter Workshop in February with great success (as always). It is a pleasure to host this event with other line dance instructors here to teach us dances they are teaching. Thank you to all the dancers who came out to support us. We never seem to have enough time to learn all the dances. March brings us to our Mardi Gras Celebration, which will also be fun. Heart and Soul will celebrate its 16th year serving the Inland Empire and part of Los Angeles county too. Our mission statement has been "to infect the Inland Empire and beyond through dance." This event brings line dancers from all over California and beyond. There will be a change to our line dance format beginning this month. We meet on Wednesdays at the following times: 4 to 4:25 pm – Beginner Basics, this session is for brand new line dancers. Line dance steps will be broken down to a "slow" step-by- step. You will learn what these steps are called (various names) and learn to count beats. Very easy dances will be used for practice during this session that will incorporate the steps learned. 4:30 to 5:10 pm – Upper Level 1 / 2 – this session will include the new dancers and the seasoned dancers. Beginner dancers will have the opportunity to practice what they learned in the basics session. New dances will be introduced and broken down at a moderate pace to ensure enough dance time. 5:15 to 6 pm – Intermediate/Advanced – this session is for those dancers who have a good understanding of line dance terminology/ musicality, understand "tags" and "restarts" in a dance, and are able to follow with minimal instructions. All dances will be reviewed, and new higher-level dances will be continually introduced. Please arrive on time and be ready for whichever session you choose, wear comfortable shoes, and bring water. For more info., call (909) 239-6464. See you on the dance floor. ~ Priscilla Robles
