Meet Connie Perkins, dancer extraordinaire. Connie's passion for dance started at age five when she began tap and ballet lessons and danced for five years adding pointe. She returned to the dance scene 12 years ago when she took tap dance classes for adults through the San Diego Parks & Recreation program and performed in a show at Balboa Park. Connie moved to Ocean Hills 10 years ago. Here she found several dance opportunities. Connie met Chuck Miller through our Ballroom Dance Club, and they have been happily dancing through life together ever since. Connie has studied tap and jazz dance with two great teachers here at Ocean Hills. She started lessons with Ellie Oakley and now learns from our current teacher Yvonne Jessen. Connie enjoys dancing for many reasons, some of which are the rhythm and music, the challenge of mastering difficult steps, the friendships that are developed, and the exercise. She loves mentoring beginner dancers hoping that they will develop the passion for dancing that she has. She also teaches and develops some of the choreography for the theater dance couples, and she teaches the men's show dance to our brave male dancers. As our Outreach Representative, Connie has arranged performances for our dance troupe at other venues including assisted living facilities, the San Diego Senior Talent Show, and the Union Tribune's Aging Expo. Connie served as president of our club for two years, and she is currently the show co- chair with Rona Cole for our June 19 and 20 show this year. Connie seems to always have a song in her heart and a dance running through her brain. You may see her doing some dance moves in the grocery store or traveling down Leisure Village Way. Thank you, Connie, for your passion, mentorship, your expertise, and your dedication to our dance troupe and our shows! 16 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2020 | Ocean Hills Dance Troupe We are kicking-off another year of dancing to great music and it's not just Country Western!
