Not in the same way as before, but we are "Stayin' Alive" while we dance together virtually. On July 30 we had our first Happy Hour on Zoom. We hired one of our favorite DJ's, CJ, to host it. Over 40 of our OHCC households logged in and participated in this Zoom Happy Hour. We danced and had fun with other Doo Wop Club members. Although the dance floor was in our own homes, and the DJ was at his home studio, we were still dancing to the same music and it was great to see the energy that comes from enjoying music together. The Happy Hour had other elements which made it fun. The theme was "Stayin' Alive" and beside the Bee Gee's song, we got to watch and dance to other great music videos. Get up and Boogie was played and taken seriously. Everyone was movin' and a-groovin'. CJ the DJ also had music trivia, and we posted answers to trivia questions using the "Chat" function on Zoom; there was a word of the day, and CJ kept us involved with screen tips so we can get the most out of the Zoom functions. He played pre-recorded videos from our members stating, "Here's what I've been doing during this (darn) pandemic." After the hour with the DJ, we had an open chat with all the familiar voices that we remember from parties in Abravanel Hall. It was great! We will have more of these for Doo Wop members until we can all party on the same dance floor again. If you would like to be invited to future virtual Happy Hours, it's easy.
