Emergency
preparedness
committee
Last year we had a BBQ and presentation in
the Lodge Ballroom for the Great Shakeout.
This year, because of COVID-19, that
will not be possible. However, we still can
be prepared. In the event of a significant
earthquake, we may find ourselves without
power, cell phone or landline phone service.
During an earthquake, things move. Don't
let those moving items injure you. Will your
car be trapped in the garage because the
garage door opener has no power? Do you
have enough water and non-perishable food
to last until the damages are remedied? Do
you have enough medicine for a few weeks,
enough oxygen, a battery backup for your
cell phone, stabilized fuel for your generator?
For water, consider an Aqua Pod 2.0, a
65-gallon water reservoir that fits in your
tub, available at: https://www.amazon.com/
s?k=B0862DB2WH.
For securing bookcases, entertainment
centers, televisions, and other furnishings
consider Anchor Straps: 10 pack,
available at https://www.amazon.com/
s?k=B06VY8HBPH
For securing knick-knacks and the like,
consider Museum putty, available at: https://
www.amazon.com/s?k=B0002VA9NA
For cell phone battery backup, consider:
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=B07ZX22KJS
The above inexpensive items are examples
of items you can purchase online. Many
items can be purchased at other outlets like
Home Depot. The key is you must prepare
before an earthquake.
However, you must utilize these and other
items to ensure your preparation. Don't wait.
Fate has a habit of punishing the unprepared.
