FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2021 13 ALLEN KOBLIN "You will never hear me say, 'That's the way we've always done it!'" Al Koblin embraces sensible change. "Life doesn't stay the same, and we need to look ahead in order to direct where and how we want to go, not stagnate and remain at the mercy of what comes our way." Al and his wife Helen moved to Four Seasons Beaumont three years ago and "It's the best move we've ever made. We love living here. This is an adult community, not a senior community and I want to contribute to taking care of it and help it manage change. I have a strong business background, especially in real estate, and I want to use my knowledge and experience to ensure that the Association is managed like the business it is." In his Candidate Statement he wrote, "Professionally, I have worked in, operated in, and advised businesses in the food industry, commercial property management, and various real estate activities. I have extensive experience in working with groups, contract evaluations and negotiations, and serving the community." Currently he is a member of our Architectural Review Committee (ARC). He also serves with the City of Beaumont as a member of the Economic Development Committee and as a board member of the Chamber of Commerce. He has served previously on the Board of Directors of an HOA and of a community center, and he has also served on several committees and commissions for another southern California city. Along with his management and business experience, Al brings an additional component to his view of Four Seasons Beaumont. "This is our home. There is an emotional value to this community. Our houses have value, both physically and emotionally. There is a tremendous obligation and responsibility to ensure that we not only keep our community as it is currently, but that we move forward and not stagnate. We must encourage fresh perspectives, and include those with more recent experience to add their voices and ideas. We must be willing to at least discuss something new." To that end, Al has some goals in mind. "I would like to add a fresh perspective to our bidding process. The Board could announce that a company or a service is going to be solicited. This could be published in the Daily Report, in the Breeze, on the website, and posted in The Lodge Lobby. This could add community input and add to the communication between the Board and the homeowners. Communication and transparency are vital. "Similarly, committee openings could be published and posted. That would ensure that everyone could have a chance to look at groups that might interest them and that they could give to. Giving back, sharing my knowledge and my friendship, is of utmost importance to me, and I am sure many others feel the same way. Let's ensure that we give them every opportunity to do so." Although Al subscribes to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," he also says that just because a concept did not work out previously, that does not mean that a new way of approaching the issue should be rejected. For instance, maybe the idea of using solar power in the community did not work out before, but that doesn't mean that trying to find alternative power sources should not be explored. Maybe there is a new technology that would work now. We should manage with that concept firmly in mind. It enhances the way we view and incorporate change." Al has set his sights on bringing his knowledge, experience, viewpoint, and wisdom to the maintenance of this beautiful community. "I want Four Seasons Beaumont to continue as the premier property it is and has been, long into the future. I want to take part in ensuring that it achieves that goal."
