FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2021 15 DR. JERRY L. TURNER "I don't believe you should complain if you're not willing to do anything about it." That statement is fairly common, often heard in the vernacular. But Jerry Turner, LEP (Licensed Educational Psychologist) and Ph.D (Consulting Psychologist) truly means it, at least for himself. A homeowner in Four Seasons Beaumont for two years, he has walked around, bicycled through, and paid close attention to the details that make this beautiful HOA such a magnificent place to live. He firmly believes that we must "maintain and repair. The Board of Directors should insist that no amenity or service is decreased or eliminated unless documented as inactive. We purchased homes with a baseline of amenity and service expectations." Jerry believes that details make a big difference in the beauty and functionality of our Association. "I am aware that staff has been decreased due to the pandemic, but I really do not like to see an area neglected. I truly dislike seeing the chairs piled helter-skelter around the Lodge pool area. If they must be kept there, at least they should be stacked neatly. Just a little thing, but it makes a difference. And the pots around the pool have no flowers or greenery. Another little thing, but if I notice them, I'm sure others do too." Not surprisingly, given the work he does, Dr. Turner thinks that listening is of great importance. "Increasing transparency of the Board can be achieved by better communication, and good listening is mandatory for good communication. The members of the Board must encourage new ideas and good participation not only from long- time residents but from newer and perhaps younger homeowners." Jerry has some priorities that he would bring to the Board. He is aware that speeding is an issue that garners a great deal of attention. He would like to see speed bumps installed as well as more stop signs. And he wants to increase law enforcement presence. "Law enforcement onboard Four Seasons should be commensurate with policing in other Beaumont neighborhoods. We all pay the same local tax rate. Ideally, these would be random speed and stop sign enforcement. A couple of random enforcements per week will change driving behaviors." Another priority is to "halt noisy landscape work prior to 8 am (gas powered blowers, edgers, etc.) And commensurate with his eye for detail, Jerry would like to see incentives for residential beautification. "Incentives could be anything from a recognition letter to a gift card from a local business to a financial reward. I would like to see incentives for complementing existing landscaping such as flower boxes, having faded houses repainted, and adding plants." Jerry not only brings his ideas and priorities to the Board of Directors, he brings relevant life experience. He was President of an HOA in San Diego. He was an active HOA member of another community in San Diego and an influential HOA member in Cathedral City. He has served on the Board of Directors of the California Association of School Psychologists; he was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps with combat leadership experience, and he is a published author. He loves walking the trails here. He frequently rides his bike through the community. He keeps his eyes open and his mind active and aware. He looks at the beauty that surrounds us and watches for the details as well. If he has an idea for an improvement or sees something that needs attention, he will make note of it. And along with his belief that one should not complain unless they are willing to do something about it, he is running for the Board in order to take responsibility for making improvements in and for the community. As Jerry says, "If you don't take responsibility, you can't change it."
