34 | THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2021 | CLUB NEWS Corvette Car Club The morning was bright, sunny and unseasonably warm as members of the newly- formed Colony Corvette Club prepared for their first car show. Since the pandemic had kept everything shut down, including outdoor public gatherings at our Clubhouse, we were anxious to see what we could do to get things moving again. The idea to try a car show was hatched at the first meeting of the new Corvette Club. We were wondering how many of the interesting cars we have seen tucked away in garages would surface if given an invitation, and we were keen on letting everyone know about the new Corvette Car Club idea. So, on the morning of Aug. 14, the south end of the Clubhouse parking lot was roped off, fresh coffee and pastries were offered, a tent was set up, and a PA system was playing classic R&R music. All we needed were a few cars beyond what the club members drove. No restrictions were placed on the entries, just an invitation that "if you were proud of it, bring it and show it." It wasn't long before it became apparent that the idea was well received. When we were done parking them, we counted over 30 cars and two very interesting motorcycles! We had originally (and optimistically) reserved 25 parking spaces for the event, and what an event it was, as it demonstrated the varied and eclectic tastes. There was a new Tesla, a 1930 Model A, a perfectly restored 1957 Corvette, a beautiful silver/grey Jaguar convertible, and a variety of other special and interesting cars and proud owners. It was great to visit with our neighbors and find out who owned what car and what the story was behind each. Several of the owners had long ownership cars, including yours truly. For instance, I own a very original 1961 Corvette that was purchased by my father some 47 years ago, and I still drive it! Watch the newsletter and webpage for announcements regarding future club activities and be assured this will not be our last Colony Car Show!
