| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2021 | 15 Golf Advisory Have you ever thought about what goes into maintaining a golf course? Simply put, it takes a lot of work. Working early in the morning helps minimize disruption for both golfers and the maintenance crew. Besides the obvious cutting of grass, there is tee box maintenance, changing hole locations, sand trap maintenance, debris cleanup, pest control, and select irrigation. Days with shotgun starts are especially hectic. Greens need to be cut in the morning. This is especially important for removal of dew to maintain healthy greens and lessen potential disease. In addition to what we see on the course, the maintenance of all the equipment is a major under taking as well. Many golf courses have a maintenance day in which the course is closed one day each week to allow for more involved maintenance. Sun Lakes is open for golf seven days a week and there are no plans to change this, but be mindful that more involved maintenance may involve some disruptions to golf from time to time. We do have maintenance days with delayed tee times on Tuesdays on the Championship Course and Wednesdays on the Executive Course. These days are primarily used for spraying greens and allow maintenance the extra time to stay ahead of golfers. We are fortunate to have Mark Burchfield as our Course Superintendent. He is well respected within the golf community for his experience and knowledge of golf course maintenance. In addition to Mark, our maintenance crew is well experienced with many of them having numerous years of service at Sun Lakes. The next time you play a round, think about the work that went into producing the playing conditions you enjoy and thank them for their work. Greetings to all! Well now it's November 2021, and this month we will honor and celebrate our bravest citizens on Veterans Day and give thanks for all we have on Thanksgiving Day. The Bingo Advisory Committee is proud to announce we will again support the Sun Lakes 10th Annual Veterans Day Walk event sponsored by the Recreation Department on Nov. 13. This event is a very worthy cause and everyone needs to support this effort. The Bingo Committee's goal is to provide entertainment for our guests and to be able to donate to our local charities. Mark your calendars! Our game nights this month are Nov. 9, 16, 23 and 30. At the present time the Restaurant and Lounge are closed on Tuesday evenings. Guests may bring snacks and beverages but absolutely no alcohol as this would jeopardize the Sun Lakes community liquor license. Bring all your friends and neighbors; everyone is welcome. We play 12 regular and three special games and guests can play all 15 games for as little as $7 for the whole evening. Many cash prizes and door prizes are won each week. Remember cash only - no checks or credit cards. Doors open at 4:30 pm, games start at 6 pm and games are over by 8:45 pm. Come and be part of the fun. Bingo Advisory
