CLUB NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2021 | 37 Jack & Jill By Judy Lebovitz, 461-0065 I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are looking forward to the upcoming holidays and, hopefully, a healthy and happy 2022! There was a small mistake in the last issue under the pictures. The survivors were in the top picture and the winners were in the bottom picture. The Colony News editor and I are sorry for the error. Our Turkey Shoot was held on our November meeting day and nearly everyone won some money! We had a delicious lunch and celebrated birthdays for three of our members who turned 80! The ringer money was passed out for the last quarter of the year, plus we had our election of officers for 2022. They will be installed at our holiday luncheon. Our holiday luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 7. There will be no golf that day, just a great party. We will also donate food to St. Martha's and the Methodist Church food pantries. If you would like to donate, you may drop off your nonperishable items in the Auditorium before noon on Dec. 7. We have a wonderful group of women in both the nine-hole and the 18-hole groups. Everyone has a lot of fun playing different tournaments each week, and I hope you will think about joining us. The Ladies Golf Club wishes everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza and best wishes for a great and Happy New Year! We hope to see you on the links! Ladies Golf The Jack and Jill tournament of Oct. 14 has been decided. We had 44 golfers, making eleven foursomes wanting to capture one of the two first-place positions in the A and B flights of the "A & B Format" competition. The golfers were met with excellent weather on the links, with tee time temperatures of 50° and 80° at the end of the tournament. There were no complaints of too hot or too cold for this event. It was, as they say, "just right" for a fun-filled day on the links. A spirited event it was and a hotly contested one, for sure! Charlie Craven captured a three-peat honor, having made the first-place position in three consecutive monthly tournaments. He was honored at our evening banquet with applause and praise for a job well done! The "B" Flight team, however, stole the show by outpacing all of the competition by nearly four strokes. When the tournament was over, the following posted winning positions for the contest: Winning Teams "A" Flight 1: 46.047: Charlie Craven, Judy Lebovitz, Rick and Terry Knode 2: 48.650: Mark Tomayo, Vicki Cornille, Bob Miller and Marge Pierson 3: 48.845: Ed Cobb, Pat Sparkenbach, Jerry and Pat Caldera "B" Flight 1: 42.416: Malcolm Grant, Sherry Roberts, John McVeigh and Bonnie Hinman 2: 45.016: Dennis Murphy, Daphne Iacobo, Dave and Pat Bailey 3: 46.209: Mike and Leigh Tsumura, Rich and Bea Brown Closest to the Pin # 5: Sherry Roberts – 22'5" / Dan Beamish – 16'10" #15: Barbara Keen – 16'10" / Rich Brown – 2'4.5" #16: Team #1: Ed Cobb, Pat Sparkenbach, Jerry and Pat Caldera – 1'2" DARWIN AWARD The Darwin went to Team #16, Ed King, Barbara Keen and Dan and Sheryl Beamish. The issue was failure to deposit their completed score card into the appropriate J&J Styrofoam container specifically marked "SCORECARD DEPOSIT" for completed score cards, thus making your humble MC/CEO search for the last and final remaining scorecard. With all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition. See ya' on the links! By Dennis Murphy, 461-0457
