18 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | The traditional Thanksgiving RV trip landed us in a new RV Resort Park in Chula Vista for four nights under the energetic and capable leadership of Wagonmasters Sondra and Fred Peppe and their team. Sun Outdoors is a modern RV Resort featuring large RV sites with picnic tables, Adirondack chairs and propane fire pits as well as one- and two-bedroom cabins for our WOW's. The resort features a full-service restaurant, a well-appointed gathering room, large pool, spa and lounging decks with large screen TV's and distant views of South Bay and the San Diego skyline. There were 22 who participated in "Sip and Paint" and each was able, during a casual afternoon, to create a lovely painting on canvas. With some professional direction and guidance, our members created remarkable paintings. After a delicious dinner buffet, a troupe came in to present us with a "murder" mystery to solve. Great fun as small groups tried valiantly to decipher the cryptic clues hoping to uncover the real perpetrator. The open bar was of great assistance with helping to produce clear and logical analysis. The foam machine, normally reserved for kids, was brought out one afternoon for us bigger kids. Those willing to brave the chilly temperatures were able to frolic in a mound of waist high foam, while others enjoyed the festivities observing from the sidelines. Many tested their golf skills in a serious contest held on the RV park's putting green. Participants concentrated on technique while spectators cheered on their favorites as the tension mounted. All in good fun. A tradition of the Thanksgiving RV trip is to have a catered turkey dinner with all the fixings on the last evening. The restaurant at Sun Outdoors provided an exception dinner for us in their club house as the sun set over the San Diego Bay. With miles of walking and biking trails around South Bay, Pickleball, golf, and several "Social Hours" (one with a delicioso Mexican buffet), it added up to a very active and fun trip! 2021 continued to present challenges to RVing, yet the RV Club was active and able to resume planning and undertaking several trips. Next year hopefully will see us traveling to new and interesting destinations. Our next meeting is Tues., Jan. 25 in Abravanel Hall. Come see what is being planned for trips in 2022! RV Club
