The Sanctuary site in "The Park" has been cleared and fertile soil has been installed in the garden. While waiting for the installation of the enclosure, the SMB has been busy developing a site plan for paths and gardens, identifying plants for all areas of the sanctuary, and organizing the committees needed to sustain the sanctuary. We are pleased to have the following directors: Linda Slayton is Director of Research; this committee will serve as the source of information for the other committees and the website. Mike Thornton will manage our website. The website for club members will provide members with ongoing information about the Sanctuary's development, upcoming events, and useful tips for home gardeners, such as plant selections, the safest resources for purchasing plants, how to build a successful garden, how to deal with pests, and many more topics. Susan Cooke will lead Care of the Garden committee, with a team of volunteers who will look after the cleanliness of the site, manage the puddling stations, and serve as "docents" at the site to help residents with information when they visit. Ruth Schafer is the Director of Home Gardens. Her team will help residents start and maintain milkweed gardens from tiny too large in their backyards, help get them pesticide-free plants, and help them solve issues that develop, like insects. The Directors are eager to get input from residents and to recruit members for their committees. Don't hesitate to volunteer; we think you fill find it fun, informative, and rewarding. The SMB Board of Directors wants to give a special shout out to Wendy Panizza for her steadfast help in making this Sanctuary a reality. It hasn't been easy with the hiring issues contractors are having and material costs soaring. She has provided helpful advice to the SMB Board at every step.
