The OHCC Sailing Club is off and running at the start of 2022.
While the club opted out of the January do dues day due to the rising
incidence of the Covid-19 Omicron variant and everyone's health and
well-being, OHCC residents can still easily join the club. Simply go to
the Ocean Hills Sailing Club web site on the OHCC website, complete
the application and deliver the application with your check for $15 to
the clubhouse front desk. It's as simple as that.
We have a great year planned, looking forward to increasing the
number of sailings and adding some special sailings including
sunset sails, July 4th evening fireworks sails, multi-boat "beer can"
races and regattas. These sailings will be augmented by other special
events organized by the OHSC membership such as a tour of the San
Diego Maritime Museum.
The December 9th classroom "introduction to sailing" course
put on by the Fleet Captain was a huge success with nearly 30 club
members in attendance. It was followed in January 2022 with a
special on the water training exercise organized by our Fleet Captain
for five eager participants in the classroom training exercise.
As the weather warms in the Spring months more sailings and
other events will be announced. Sailings may be in beautiful San
Diego Harbor where you will gain a new seaside perspective on many
local attractions including the Maritime Museum; the new open air
entertainment shell; the underside of the Coronado Bay Bridge; the
USS Midway aircraft carrier; the Coronado Cays and more. Other
sailings may take you outside the harbor beyond Point Loma on a
tack towards the Coronado Islands, possibly into Mexico waters. On
these sailings you may see dolphins or whales. You may see giant
cruise ships and car ferries entering the harbor or find yourself
amidst naval exercises. On all our sailings you will see seals, sea lions,
pelicans, and all sorts of seabirds and other pleasure and commercial
vessels.
We eagerly look forward to you joining us and enjoying all the club
has to offer with fair winds and following seas.
