Quite a few of our clients have moved to independent living facilities. This type of housing provides a variety of convenient services and amenities, including prepared meals, transportation, social activities and housekeeping. Unlike assisted living, independent senior living doesn't provide help with personal care, like bathing. In fact, seniors at independent living facilities are generally active, healthy, and able to live on their own, but may desire convenience and more social opportunities. Independent living facilities focus on providing hassle-free living and building community in a senior-friendly environment. Services usually include dining services, nutritious meals, housekeeping, laundry, home maintenance and repairs, complimentary transportation, social activities and outings, and concierge services. Independent living allows older adults to pursue a more relaxed lifestyle without the responsibilities of home ownership and other daily chores. It offers convenience in a social, senior-friendly community. Adults who choose to live in an independent living retirement community can spend more time exploring interests and connecting with friends and loved ones. Older adults who live on their own may not want to spend time cooking healthy, nutritious meals for one. Even those who enjoy cooking may find daily meal preparation a burden. Independent living apartments are designed with seniors in mind. Common areas and apartment units come with accessibility features to cater to different levels of physical ability. These often include wide doorways, low thresholds, well-lit spaces, handrails, walk-in showers and tubs, and more. Many independent living facilities also have staff available 24 hours a day to assist residents in case of an emergency. Some may offer each resident a personal emergency response device or have emergency alert systems in apartment units so seniors can get help at the push of a button. Moving to an independent living facility doesn't mean you need to say goodbye to furry friends. Many communities allow pets. Here are a few facilities in the area that I have heard good things about. Mission Commons: 10 Terracina Blvd., Redlands This facility has studio, one-bedroom or two-bedroom senior apartments with generous closets, a modern kitchenette, and a walk- in tub. Utilities, housekeeping, dining, and transportation come bundled in the price. The Village at Hemet: 2200 W Acacia Ave., Hemet. This facility is a 60+ Life Plan Community. The residents have a plan in place even if their health care needs change over time. The independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing are all combined so residents may add services and move between levels of care. Three Solera residents decided to sell their homes and move to The Village and we were pleased to help them with the sale of their homes. Pricing for The Village includes both a one-time buy-in fee and a monthly component. Golden Oaks: 33398 Oak Glen Rd., Yucaipa. This independent living facility has spacious studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, complete with generous closet space, a convenient kitchenette, a walk-in tub, and a patio or balcony. Utilities, housekeeping, dining, transportation and more are bundled into your pricing. Atria Park of Vintage Hills: 41780 Butterfield Stage Road, Temecula. About five miles from Old Town Temecula and Pechanga Casino. Atria Park of Vintage Hills is a community that offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care services. Sunrise at Canyon Crest: 5265 Chapala Drive, Riverside. This is an award-winning community, recognized with a Silver National Quality Award. Before moving to Solera, I used to drive by this beautiful facility on my way to work and would admire the manicured gardens and walking paths. I am not recommending any one facility. It's best to arrange for a tour of several facilities when you are ready to make a move. | LIFE IN SOLERA | JULY 2022 | 11 By Diana Mangan Realtor and Resident Thinking About A Move To An Independent Living Facility?
