| LIFE IN SOLERA | JULY 2022 | 7 Permits: When you want to do a project outside your home, you need to fill out an application (available in the office). The Design Review Committee then reviews it and, if everything is in order, approves it. At this point, you will receive approved paperwork. The yellow permit MUST be posted in the garage window while the project is underway. Upon completion, the permit MUST be returned to the office. Many homeowners neglect to return the permit. After the permit is returned, a DRC member inspects the project. The DRC member checks to see if the project has been completed as specified on the application. More than 96 percent of the projects pass inspection. Those that don't are told to correct their project. If the homeowner has turned in their permit in a timely manner, the correction can be easily made. If the permit has not been returned, the DRC does not see the project for a year. This is because the permit states the project must be completed within a year of the approval date. DRC cannot inspect it until the year has passed if the permit has not been returned. If a year has passed and then inspected and there is a problem, it becomes more difficult (and sometimes costly for the owner) to correct. Examples of some inspections not passing have included the following: The front door or shutters were painted a different color other than approved. The tree replacement in the front yard is less than 5' tall or is not in the described front yard area. A courtyard wall exceeds 30" in height. An exterior lighting (bulb) is greater than 600 lumens. The front yard lighting does not conform to the Beaumont dark-sky rules. As you can see, some of these can be expensive to correct. Also, not submitting a project can be costly to correct! Remember to return your permit to the office when your project is completed. Design Review Committee PERMITS
