38 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2022 | Your Ocean Hills Sailing Club continues to grow. We are up to 196 members including 64 new members as of June 30. This is just slightly off the club's record 2021 membership of 204. But the year is only half over so a new record may be in the offing! It is equally exciting that the club has completed 28 sails as of June 30 with another 18 scheduled in July and August – a club record. In addition to this cycle one through cycle three sails, your club's Captains and Mates are planning more sails for September and October which will be listed in an email to all OHSC members in August. As of now, 13 cycle four sails have been scheduled - and more may be coming. All in all, your club expects to complete 60 or more sails in 2022 giving every club member the opportunity to sail one or more times this year. The June 11 dinner dance was a wonderful success due to the efforts of Laura Carlson and her team. More than 100 members and guests attended. Door prizes and the 50/50 raffle were well received. The comedian/ukulele player and the DJ were enjoyed by all. People were dancing and singing along. The Hawaiian themed dinner was plentiful exceeded only by the frivolity and laughter coming from our party goers. Responding to the level of enthusiasm for the June party, planning for our club's next party has begun. It will be on October 28th, so mark your calendars. Entertainment will include the DJ from the club's June dinner dance with more details to follow. Our first sunset sail was made on June 29. The Catalina 29 was captained by Fleet Captain Charlie Cappello who was assisted by Mate Kathy Coffman. The Catalina 29 with all aboard left the dock at 1:30 pm. The Crew enjoyed a leisurely sail until 5:30 pm at which time the boat docked along the Ketch restaurant on Shelter Island just in time for happy hour and a leisurely mariners' dinner. Following dinner, the Catalina sailed back into the bay where all aboard could enjoy the sunset before motoring back to the dock. Based on the feedback, there will surely be more sunset sails in the club's future. Pictures are posted on the club's website. Members on other sails in June enjoyed several submarine and amphibious ship sightings. It is a wonderful time of the year to be on the water with the warm weather and long days welcoming all of us to go sailing. The club welcomes Julie Pashowski as its new membership director. Julie will be assuming the lead on membership building from Donna Ryan, your club's Treasurer. Julie is a welcome addition to the club's team. We thank Donna for her dedication and the fine job she has done over the past year to build the membership and help guide the club toward the success it has achieved as a member of the club's Board of Directors. Donna is continuing in her role as club Treasurer and advocate. Last but not least is the upcoming annual election of members to your club's Board of Directors. If you haven't already, you will soon be receiving an email and ballot proposing Board members for the September 2022-August 2023 year. The current Board was elected in September 2021. Board members may serve more than a single term, but must be elected by vote of the membership, annually. It is important that the ballots be returned to your club's Secretary by Aug. 15. Sailing Club
