34 | THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2022 | Ladies Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 461-0065 Men's Golf October is a very active time for the Colony Men's Golf Club with various events taking place. This includes our President's Cup Tournament, General Membership Meeting, and of course preparations for the upcoming November Pancake Breakfast. The President's Cup Tournament is a 'match play' format, the only one of its kind held during the year and played over a three-day period. This is head-to- head competition, handicap based, and a good opportunity to experience playing this format. The winner last year was Malcolm Grant (at right), so let's see if Malcolm can repeat his performance this year. Our second biannual General Membership Meeting is also held in October. This meeting gives those members attending the opportunity to raise any issues regarding the CMGC, and to nominate for and vote on the Board of Directors for the upcoming year. The Pancake Breakfast will take place in the Auditorium on Saturday, Nov. 12. Tickets will be sold at the upcoming Health Fair and at the Bake Sale and Crafts Fair on Nov. 5. We had a great attendance at the June Breakfast; let's hope we can duplicate or surpass that in November. Why not join us and become a member of the Colony Men's Golf Club? Simply call our Membership Director, Bill Connelly, at 760- 861-4831. Since the CMGC is a member club of the SCGA, full membership in the CMGC also includes membership in the SCGA at a reduced fee. By Sam Currie, 461-0801 IT WAS HOT! Golf was canceled the last Tuesday of August due to the heat, but our September golf luncheon was so nice. We celebrated September birthdays with a lovely cake, while also saying goodbye to our club champion, Sunny Park, who is moving to Orange County. She will be missed by all of us, and we wish her well in her new surroundings. We are all excited about our upcoming Charity Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Due to the golf course situation, it will be members-only but should be very successful. It will be a scramble format for both the 9- and 18-hole groups. The cost is $30 per person, which includes a lovely lunch, open bar and a donation to each of the charities. We will also have placards available for $30 on each tee box in memory of or in honor of a loved one or friend. Members can also make individual donations to each of the charity organizations. Representatives from Michelle's Place and Hospice of the Valleys will be attending the luncheon and talk about their organizations. It should be a very special day, and we are all happy to be able to help these worthy groups. If you are interested in making a donation to either of these charities, you may contact me or the tournament host, Anita Hoetker at 949- 842-4873. In October, we will begin golfing at 8 am for the next three months. We are hoping for cooler weather. We welcome new members, and if you are interested in either group, please contact our membership chair, Peggy Clendenen at 951-696-2169. In the meantime, stay cool and hydrated. We hope to see you on the links! Exercise Class By Ann Carter, Personal Trainer and Colony Aerobics Instructor Exercise classes are offered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The first class, 8 to 8:55 am in the Auditorium, is a basic jazzercise type, with the first half high-intensity, low- impact (hi-lo aerobics). The second half is intense body work exercises. (Please bring a mat.) The cost is $3, which includes the choice of staying for the 9 to 9:45 am Chair Class, which is also held in the Auditorium. Don't let the name fool you, we do not always remain seated; the chair is a tool we use to help with balance. The class incorporates balance, weight resistance, coordination, range of motion and stretching. The tools used are light weights, resistance bands and balls. You can bring your own or use some offered for the class. Water is supplied. Unfortunately, Silver Sneakers no longer covers the cost for off- site classes, so the Chair Class is $2 per class if that is the only one you take on any given day. The last class I teach is Water Aerobics from 10 to 11 am in the pool. This class can be as easy or as hard as you make it. It costs $3 per class, whether or not you take advantage of the other classes that day. We use water weights on Mondays and Wednesdays and pool noodles on Friday. It is a fun, cool way to exercise on these hot days. It will continue to Friday, Oct.14. I am the instructor for all three classes. I have been certified in Silver Sneakers, as well as have an AFFA Trainer's certification. Come join us, no need to sign up ahead of time for the classes. A daily waiver sign-in sheet is at the door for those who come.
