32 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2022 | Village Vets Thanks to our guest speaker, resident Bob Bechhill we had a really great meeting on Sept. 22. Bob has worked with many of the military at Camp Pendleton over the years, and helped in many ways. We are still working on an offsite for our members, and currently making last minute arrangements for an Oct. 20 trip at Camp Pendleton for the Marine Corps Mechanized Museum and the Ranch House Museum Complex. We will contact our members as soon as possible with the details. There will be no Village Vet's regular meeting in October. Please remember to come Veteran's Day, November 11th at 11 am in Abravanel Hall at the Clubhouse. We will be reviving activities, that we all missed over the past few years. Everyone is invited to attend this fun-filled event. The theme for the event will be Women in the Military. The event will be hosted by the Village Vet's Club, the OHCC Clubhouse, with military, and other groups joining us. In recognition of Veteran's Day November 11th, many restaurants and retailers are offering free meals or special discounts to active duty and veterans with any proof of service. A partial list of restaurants is as follows: Applebee's, BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, California Pizza Kitchen, Chili's, Denny's, IHOP, Macaroni Grill, Outback Steak House, Red Lobster, Wendy's, and Joe's Crab Shack. Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohls, Office Depot, Staples, and Walgreens are also providing multiple day discounts to veterans. Please call ahead to the location, to find out the particulars of their offering. The plans for our Dec. 10 Village Vet's Holiday Party are coming together. We will have a grand dinner planned in Abravanel Hall, catered by the Village Kitchen & Pie Shoppe from Carlsbad. The Arrowhead Band will be entertaining, for your listening and dancing pleasure. We will also be inviting and sponsoring military personnel and guests to be at each table as in the past. We hope to have our members help sponsor a military guest or two. In past years the Vet's holiday parties have been loved by our members as one of the highlights of the holiday season. Our annual election of officers is also on our agenda. If you are interested in a position of Commander, Vice Commander, Secretary, Treasurer and Membership Chair, please contact nominating committee members Larry Soukup or Greg Coffey.
