FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2022 59 After postponing our annual summer tennis tournament a few times this summer due to the unbearable heat waves that just wouldn't go away, we were finally able to make it happen on Oct. 1. It was a beautiful sunny day in the mid-80s with a gentle breeze, just enough to keep us very comfortable throughout the entire event. Doubles teams were paired up in the most equitable way possible so that matches could be played competitively yet fun. It was a round- robin format so that all players got to play against all other players. Emerging as the winner was Team Laura Emerson/Chuck Beckman, while the runner-up went to Team Beverly Haller/Stan Lam. Coming in third place was Team Randy Haemmerle/Mike Olson, and in fourth place was Team Lou Stokes/Larry Zimmerman. Sorry, we are allowed only three photos per issue. Any violation will be subject to a $10,000 fine and possible jail time. Just kidding! (Don't worry, those other precious photos will appear when you least expect it.) After the competition, everyone gathered together for a scrumptious BBQ, topped off with some delicious desserts. We all sat around and shared war stories with plenty of laughter. And yes, you guessed it. There were even a few fish tales too. It was an absolutely enjoyable and fun-filled day! A note worth mentioning, which almost made my eyeballs pop out of my head: them thar hot dogs (please pardon my hillbilly talk) the size of great danes were ridiculously humongous. You can practically put some wheels on them and ride around in your DIY Oscar Mayer Wienermobile! No, c'mon, I'm stinkin' serious! Now, back to business. A big thank you is in order to Lou Stokes who spearheaded and organized this very successful event. A heartfelt thanks also to all the volunteers, especially Nancy Walker and Liliana Simanton, who are always willing to put in 110 percent effort to help put everything in good order. Thank you, all. Couldn't have done it without you. Howard Levine once again volunteered to make and donate all the beautiful, professional grade medals and labels for the winning prizes. Thanks again, Howard, for your continuous support and generosity. Check out the Tennis Club website listed below and see more photos taken during the event and catch the players in action.
