48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2022 Tails & Trails - All Pets All Seasons RV No official club outings are scheduled until February 2023. Some club members made plans to spend time at the Colorado River in October, while others are traveling to Quartzsite, Arizona, in January, 2023. Many fun and interesting club outings have been planned for next year, and reservations for those interested in attending should be under way at this point. New members are always welcome and encouraged to attend the monthly meetings at The Lodge on the fourth Thursday of each month starting at 6:30 pm. Highlight Campout: The Bennett's and the Yanes' spent nine nights at Huntington Beach RV Park, which in the past was an annual trip for the club during the month of October. As expected, the weather was perfect for the entire duration and made it so enjoyable to be outdoors. Overall the crowd was much lighter and quieter at the RV Park and in town this year, probably because children are back in school again post pandemic. Miles were walked, shops were visited, sites were seen, towns were explored, and great meals were cooked and enjoyed outdoors. Beautiful scenery in all directions was there for the viewing, and watching the sunrises and sunsets over the ocean never disappoints. ~Steve Bennett, 4stevesjunk@ gmail.com The holidays are filled with joy, laughter, and time spent with family and friends. In the bustle of the season, it's easy to forget these festivities aren't always pet friendly. Here are some holiday items you should keep out of reach of your pets. Be as conscientious when you are around friends' and families' pets. When you are a guest, use special tags on gifts that aren't pet friendly and ask your host to place them out of reach of curious cats and dogs. Holiday pet treats or gifts should not include any ribbons, bows, or anything that might harm a pet. They can cause serious harm if pets ingest them. After gifts are opened, take the ribbons and strings away. They can pose a choking hazard. Household decor with moving or hanging pieces or electrical components can also pose a threat. During the holidays, you may have plants in the house that are poisonous to pets. Some lilies are toxic to cats. Azaleas, holly, mistletoe, and poinsettias are also poisonous. Holiday meals contain some favorite, seasonal ingredients, and though they are fine for humans, many are harmful to pets. You already know to avoid chocolate, but you'll also want to watch for grapes, raisins, chopped onions, and garlic as these can be toxic for our pets. Xylitol is another ingredient to keep from pets. This sugar alternative is found in cake and cookie mixes, yogurt, and peanut butter. It is also found in chewing gum. Your pet's curiosity of visitors may lead them to root through purses or coats. This can seem harmless, but your dog or cat might find medications, chewing gum, or other harmful items. Ibuprofen can cause severe adverse effects to our pets and decongestants can also pose a threat. Place your guests' belongings in a closet or closed- off room. By following these holiday safety tips, you can avoid seasonal risks to your pet and enjoy a fun-filled, safe holiday. It's always wise to prepare for any scenario. Keep your veterinarian's number in your phone and ask about their emergency procedures during the holidays. Program the number for the Animal Poison Control Center to your phone: (888) 426-4435. They're available 24/7, including holidays. ~ Vivian Walker vivr@sbcglobal.net Bobbi and Jill made a new friend while shopping in Seal Beach Group enjoying a walk on the pier Sunset from the RV Park
