4 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2023 | CORRECTION On last month's cover we featured a beautiful collage of gazanias. The design of the collage and the photography were by Robert Ruseckas. I inadvertently credited Dix Henneke. I apologize for this error and appreciate Robert's continued contribution to Lifestyles (and for being my buddy). ~ Courtney Taylor, Image Up Advertising & Design DID YOU KNOW that April showers not only bring May flowers – they bring mosquitoes? This year's heavy rainfall is creating one of the worst mosquito seasons on record, with standing water in many areas providing lush breeding grounds. Luckily, the cool weather is keeping the mosquito population down for now, but that won't last long. As the weather warms up, they will be abundant. Sun Lakes management, in conjunction with the County of Riverside, is already taking action with scheduled spraying. What can you do to prevent mosquitoes on your property? Empty out any standing water including flowerpots, saucers, clogged gutters, stagnant bird baths. Check your sprinklers, make sure they are not creating unnoticed puddles. These little pests are prolific! A single female mosquito can lay hundreds of eggs in just one night. DID YOU KNOW that we have a new Recreation Director? Please welcome Dario Puig! He started the beginning of May and brings a strong hospitality background plus a friendly, energetic personality. His office is in the Main Clubhouse, just around the corner from the receptionist. He and Linda Vang will be working together to continue to bring fun, unique and exciting activities to Sun Lakes. Go introduce yourself and get to know Dario. DID YOU KNOW that you cannot park in your driveway between midnight and 6 am unless you have an overnight pass? As a resident, you may park in your driveway during the day without a pass, but your car must go back into the garage by midnight. Special parking permits may be issued through Administration for up to 30 days if you are unable to park in your garage for any reason, such as work being done in your home. There are penalties for parking violations as follows: First offense, a notice is sent and a fine may be levied. Second offense within the calendar year, another notice is sent and a fine will be levied. A third offense within the calendar year will incur a disciplinary hearing before the Master Board plus another fine and potential suspension of your vehicle transponder for 30 days. By Beverly Simmons, Master Board 2nd Vice-President DID YOU KNOW?
