Veterans Park
August visitors, especially grandchildren, is a great
time to educate the younger generation on the meaning
of patriotism and service to our country. The events
for August include Purple Heart Day on Aug. 7 and
the USMC Reserves birthday on Aug. 29. While most
supporters of veterans honor the regulars, many do not
appreciate what the Reserve forces add to our wartime
deployments. They have established a livelihood and
family in the homeland and when called to active duty,
they must re-arrange not only their own agenda, but
their family's as well. This is different than the regulars
who are prepared for deployments. ~ Len Tavernetti,
