| LIFE IN SOLERA | AUGUST 2023 | 29 As summer sets in, all of us seem to have an increased thirst and therefore an increased number of recyclables. Please keep collecting those plastic water, juice, and tea bottles, with caps removed, along with your aluminum cans. And don't forget that each recyclable item must be clearly imprinted on its label or side with the words CA-CRV or CA CASH REFUND. Please, no glass due to the breakage. There is a small area located inside our Mail Room, clearly marked with a big yellow Sunshine Club sign, where you can place your collected materials. Thanks to your continued efforts and donations in recycling, the Sunshine Club can send cards to residents that are ill and deliver flowers or a fruit basket to any resident who has experienced an overnight hospital stay or death of an immediate family member. In addition to bringing sunshine to our residents, we are also able to support local charities. The Sunshine Club recently donated $1,000 to the San Gorgonio Hospital Primary Stroke Center Project. After speaking with Valerie Hunter, the Hospital Foundation Director, we learned about their efforts to bring this much needed center to our community. Today, someone experiencing a stroke must be transported to Loma Linda, Redlands, or desert hospitals. Once they have CT scanners, an MRI machine, and staff in place they will be able to apply for full accreditation. Thanks to the generosity of the Morongo Indians and you through your recycling, they are well on their way! If you would like to assist in bringing a little sunshine into our community and beyond, we would love to have you join our club. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 1 pm in Arts & Crafts Room. Due to busy summer schedules, our next meeting will be on Sept. 20. If you have any questions, please contact July Charlick at (951) 769-6465 or Diane Coffman at (949) 295-1097. SUNSHINE CLUB Sunshine Helpers Needed! Chronic illnesses, hospitalization, and/or death can hit people hard. If you have a friend or neighbor here in Solera who needs a spark of sunshine, let members of the Sunshine Club know. For your convenience, the yellow Sunshine Box is located on the table in the Mail Room where you can drop off the information for a resident or residents who are sick or have experienced a death in the family. Sometimes just a card or telephone call will brighten someone's day immensely.
