| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2023 | 15 Sun Lakes Committee Reports Our committee observes and collaborates. Our focus is to make Sun Lakes more enjoyable for all while enhancing revenue. As the hot days of August end and we enter fall with nature's incredible color palette painting trees red, rust, and gold, we enjoy cooler nights with Chef Chris's famous soups and Matt's incredible creative cocktails and coffees. The first week of September is National Biscuits and Gravy week. Come in and try Chef Chris's special version "House-made Biscuits with Peppermill Sausage Gravy" for $4.95. Mon., Sept. 4 is Labor Day and we are closed this day. Americans first celebrated Labor Day in 1882, and it became a federal holiday in 1894 – nearly 20 years before the creation of the Labor Department which initially was formed to mandate the eight- hour work day. When it's 5 o'clock somewhere, enjoy a "Backyard Tea" or "White After Labor Day" cocktail in the Restaurant or Lounge. On Sept. 11, join us to see our newly remodeled Sandwedge Sports Bar & Grill. This is our soft opening as we kick off "Monday Night Football." Remember how much fun it was last year? We promise great fun this year too. See the New York Jets play the Buffalo Bills on big screen TVs and enjoy a "Tie Breaker" Martini, a "Double Shot" espresso hot chocolate, or coffee drink. If golf isn't your thing but tennis is, then you'll enjoy watching the Davis Cup Sept. 12 - 17. For the golf lovers, Spain is set to stage the prestigious international women's golf event, The Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesin, for the first time in the tournament's history Sept. 18 – 24. The dates mark a significant milestone as it is the first European-hosted Solheim Cup to be played in close proximity to The Ryder Cup which will be in Italy the following week beginning Sept. 29 between players from the U.S. against European players. Let's all get behind Team USA! Follow your favorite players on big screens in the Sandwedge Sports Bar & Grill or Lounge. Keep in mind on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays you can order food and drinks by phone and pick up on your way to or from the pool. When we are under heat advisory, staff will not be in attendance at the pool. Also, on the last Sunday of the month, staff will be busy with our popular Last Sunday Brunch in the Restaurant and there will be no pool staff service. Chef Chris has made great menu changes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our Restaurants are much more comfortable, friendly, and desirable than the fast food that surrounds our community plus you're supporting your community asset. I know that residents in nearby communities would like to have the opportunity to experience what we have here in Sun Lakes but we are a private club. We rely solely on our residents to patronize and support our Restaurants and Lounge. If you haven't already, please come out to enjoy a meal, cocktails, and "HaPpY Hour" on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Great music entertainment is provided Friday and Saturday nights. The Lobby bar is closed until further notice. With 3,327 homes in Sun Lakes, if each resident visited our Restaurant, Sandwedge, and/or our Lounge just once a month, it would make a huge difference to our bottom line. It's a simple case of we need to use it or we will lose it. We're looking forward to upcoming theme nights, enjoy a night of international dining, Tai, Sushi, French, German and more. Please call the Restaurant for reservations at (951) 769-6654. Do you have food industry or related experience you'd like to share? Our Committee Interest Form is in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Simply fill it out and return it to the reception desk. I appreciate all of your calls, emails, and comments. Believe it or not, I don't have all the answers! Please address your concerns using the Message to Management box located at the Main Clubhouse reception desk. Finally, please join us at Activities Day on Sept. 23 from 1 to 4 pm in the Main Clubhouse. Meet our Committee members and enjoy a treat from Chef Chris. ~ Carole Elliott Restaurant & Lounge Advisory For 20 years, Lifestyles Magazine has been the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80+ pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the MB, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the 6th of each month. The LAC meets on the 7th of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with a Master Board liaison, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and the Recreation Director to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost, and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Our committee currently has no openings but always welcome applications to add to our wait list. Lifestyles Advisory
