e tournament for July 13 is over, but as temperatures increased, Mother Nature made an appearance to let us all know that "summer is here." Nine foursomes not only challenged Mother Nature but each other on the links in the "Random Draw" competition. is one in particular was a spirited event and a "hotly" contested one. When the tournament was over, the following posted winning positions. Winning Teams 1st: 43.636, John Comeau, Marge Anderson, Bruce Ray (a newbie) and Laurie Freres 2nd: 45.036, Rich Brown, Sharon Smith, Gary Wilson and Linda Peterson 3rd: 46.845, John and Anita Hoetker, Ken Kawamura and Pat Byron 4th: 48.233, Larry Determan, Vicky Corneille, David and Pat Bailey Closest to the Pin #5: Women, Annette Lalicker – 11'5" / Men, John Comeau – 11'2" #15: Women, Anita Hoetker – 6'4.5" / Men, Rich Brown – 4'11" #16: Team #15A, John Comeau, Marge Anderson, newbie Bruce Ray and Laurie Freres – 4'8" e Darwin Award goes to Larry Determan, when your ever-so-humble MC/CEO began the tournament on hole #13 and was making the turn from #18 to Tee #1. By chance, he met Determan coming off #9, who said (sly sarcasm, I'm sure), "We're half done!" I am convinced under his breath I could hear, "Na na na na NA!" Our next contest is ursday, Sept. 14, and will be our most popular venue, "Regular Scramble." As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition. See ya on the links! 24 | THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2023 | Jack & Jill By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 Ladies Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 951-461-0065 e hot weather is still upon us, but our die-hard golfers are still out there every week. e starting time is 7:30 am through September.
