58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2023 Hey, all you wonderful people out there in our treed little hamlet! It's time to get caught up on the goings-on out in the area next to the Ampitheater where all the pocking/smacking/shouting goes on every morning before the rooster crows. We're talkin' Pickleball with a capital "P," and that stands for Powerful fun with all your seemingly innocent and docile neighbors who, it turns out, are positively ravenous predators on the courts. Don't let our stained and faded sweatshirts and frumpy tennis skirts fool you; we're out there having a blast! By the time this blurb sees the light of day, there'll no doubt be a li'l nip in the air to remind us that there really are seasons other than Are-You-Kiddin'-Me-It's-a-Furnace-Out-There 'round these parts. Our annual Kick Off the Cool Weather tourney was held way back on Sept. 23, and as always, our own Kelly Vuccinic, magnificent-maven- of-all-things, wonderfully organized and equitable, put together a get-together that went as smoothly as a swig of buttered rum by a cracklin' fire on a cold November night. Ladies' Doubles ≥65 (our most golden go-getters) saw neighborhood hotties Kimi Olsen and Renee Brickman bring home the gold. Gentlemen's ≥65 Doubles splashed hard-fought silver on John Schaefer and Steve Roa, who gave the outlanders all a good whuppin'. In a storied Mix-'em-up Doubles <65 match, none other than the likes of hyper-locals LynnRae Dupree and Jim Allard finished in first, beating out exchange students Michelle and Pat Carter who hail from way over in Sun Lakes. Next was <65 IOFPs (individuals of the female persuasion) Doubles, which saw typical Four Seasons amazing play from Kelly Boggs and LynnRae Dupree who gold-ed and Shelly (not Jim) Allard and Gayle Wardenski who silvered. Last, but far from least, came the working-Men's Division, <65 Doubles. There, Jim (not Shelly) Allard and Jimmy Conner finished in boldly golden style. Our own Keith Linton opened his heart and his game to take in some off-campus help from Mark Oster to capture the bronze. Come on out and join us, Four Season-aires! ~ Julie McGrath Pickleball For anyone who doesn't believe that Table Tennis (aka Ping Pong) is a competitive and well-represented activity within the Four Seasons community, you need not look any further than the number of FSTTC members who participated in last month's OLDlympics competition in Hemet. For those of you who don't follow the various activities outside of our community, the OLDlympics is a multi-sport event that invites seniors from all over Riverside and San Bernardino counties to compete in the various sports they used to play with reckless abandon in their younger days. Heartiest congratulations to all the Four Seasons ping pong fanatics who put their egos and aging joints on the line to participate in this great event. The Spin 'n Slam Table Tennis Club is a group that was designed to attract those Four Seasons residents who are serious about and enjoy competing in the sport of ping pong. We meet at The Courts on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 10:30 am. See you there. ~ Bob Rubenstein, brube88@gmail.com Spin 'n Slam Table Tennis Club Here's a pic of everyone who played in the September tournament - see if you can spot your fave At right is Kelly V., our absolute favorite tourney organizer this month is is what it looks like when the sun hits you juuuust right
