58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2024 | By the time this is published we will have had our Home Town Rally, which should have been lots of fun. Our first adventure, which is not a RV Club sanctioned event, is to Fortuna Del Oro in Yuma, AZ. This is scheduled for March 10-17. In previous years, Fortuna would allow us to book 25-26 spaces together, however this year they changed their rule and would not allow that to happen. There were spaces that had been available, which are 849, 847, 846, 843, 842, 886, 887, 888, 889, 890, 891, 895, 896, 898, 899, 939, 942, 943, 946, 947, 949, 951, 952, 953, 944, 959, 957, 958, 960 and 962 that were open. Spaces went quick, so not sure if any are still available, but if you want to go you can call and ask for Chelsea, her number is (928) 342-5051. Make sure you tell her you're from the Sun Lakes RV Club. If none of those are available, maybe there is one close by, or there are the cottages that are available if you do not have an RV. On that note, you do not need to have an RV to be part of the club. Most campgrounds we go to have cottages that can be rented. So if anyone is interested in joining our group, but do not have an RV, contact Leon Fikse at (909) 831-3809, Bob Schive at (951) 990-2805, Sandi Fetterman at (820) 324-2523, or Bea Mercado at (951) 255- 2445. Our annual membership fees are $25 for a couple or $12 for a single person. Our next adventure will be to Highlands RV Resort (Bishop, CA). It's from April 28 through May 3. Dave and Pat Puckett are the trail bosses. They are still looking for committee members, so contact them if interested in helping out. I know a number of members are looking forward to the fishing up there and the beautiful scenery. The fall trip is to Zion Sept. 22-27. We still need Trail Bosses and a committee to organize this trip. Richard Fetterman is planning a trip before Zion, going up to (Cody, WY), (Deadwood, SD), Cheyenne, Flaming Gorge Reservoir, Moab, Navajo Dam in NM, then onto Zion. If you're interested in joining the group going on this extended trip, contact Richard at (802) 324-3068. Sounds like it would be a fun and interesting trip. In regards to trail bosses and committee members, remember in our bylaws that everyone is expected to volunteer to serve as a trail boss, be on a committee, or be an officer on the Board. One might think that being a trail boss is a lot of work. That's what the committee is for. Each member of the committee has one function to take care of, and the trail boss is the person(s) that keeps track of the progress. Having served as a committee member it may sound like a lot of work, yes it does take some time, but it is a lot of fun also. Please consider helping out for our Zion trip. Wishing our February birthday friends a happy birthday. They are: Sandy Alexanian 2/24, Lyn Ball 2/25, Gail Bonagofsky 2/25, Harriet Fikse 2/11, Steve Martin 2/9, Kristi Smith 2/20. Hope everyone has a wonderful birthday. RV Club New Couples Golf The New Year brings exciting news to couples who enjoy golfing together but are not quite ready to join a sanctioned club. What was the Sun Lakes Couples golf club is now Sun Lakes couples golf. It does sound the same but it is definitely not! Our definition of "couple" is very broad and inclusive. Sun Lakes couples golf defines couple as anyone who would like to golf with other people on Sunday mornings. If you are a single and want to meet other golfers, we can usually pair two singles together to make a couple! If you ARE a couple of friends or a couple of amazing people, a couple of enemies or a couple of strangers - this is the group for you! There is no fear or anxiety allowed. We have ALL levels of golfers and welcome brand new golfers, (you gotta start somewhere), young golfers, (we envy your vitality and strength), old golfers, (we will all get there someday), and even good golfers, (we are not-so secretly jealous). The point is - everyone is welcome! The price to pay to play with this AWESOME group is (regular fees apply), plus $2.50 per golfer which goes for weekly prize money! Winners will be paid in SCRIP. You must sign up NO LATER than 2 pm on the Saturday PRECEDING the Sunday - ONE WEEK BEFORE each event. Couples parings will be chosen on the Sunday morning of the day of play by choosing a colored tee to show who your partner will be. The first Sunday of the month will be "pick your Partner" day. When signing up for the first Sunday make sure you write in who you would like to be paired with. The sign up sheet is in the pro shop in the cubbies on the right when you walk in. Any of the handsome, capable pros can direct you where and how to sign up. All of us look forward to meeting all of YOU!
