30 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JUNE 2024 | The year is almost half over. Is it me or does time go faster each year? I know my health needs sure seem to change each year. Recently I experienced a time when my legs began to feel pretty weak and wobbly. I had been away from Walk Fit over the holidays and it doesn't take long to feel the difference. We all need to be aware that exercise is an important part of our overall health. We need both cardio and strength training. Walk Fit addresses the cardio with some added strength benefits. Since we are indoors the weather is not an issue. Come try our class and feel the benefits. The class consists of nine different Leslie Sansone "Walk Fit" DVDs. The easy-to-follow routines are set to music with varying tempos. The complete class is four miles, but you can come late or leave early to shorten your routine and "work at your own level." A few of the DVDs incorporate resistance bands (always optional). Some class members add light hand weights for added strength training. Stop by and give us a try. New members are always welcome! We meet Mon., Wed., and Fri. from 7:45 to 8:45 am in The Lodge Ballroom. The class is free! I would also recommend you try SASY class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 for more strength training. Their class is also a "work at your own level" class. For more information, contact Karen Tuvim at (316) 260-0847. Walk Fit Golf Club From the President, Mike Caldwell: We have all been there. Pulling your tee shot into the weeds or turning to ask if anybody saw where your shot went as they stared into the glaring sun. Every golfer knows that bad reads, blow up holes and duffed shots can influence your state of mind. It is difficult to get past those bad influences. Golf should be about having fun and setting goals that bring you energy and enjoyment. Ben Hogan once said, "that he was happy to just hit one or two perfect shots per round." Apparently, Hogan's state of mind contributed to him becoming one of the greatest champions in the history of golf. I know I would benefit from playing the game the same way (paraphrasing from Golf Magazine article dated JUNE 2024). From the Tournament Chair, Elliot Yaeger: The June Schedule for the Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club is as follows: June 4 - 7:30 am, Partners: Six - Six - Six June 11 - 7:30 am, Team Scramble June 18 - 7:30 am, Individual: Nine Hole Low Net Tournament 8 am Individual: Throw Out One Hole from the Front and One Hole from the Back June 25 - 7:30 am, Inter-Club Tournament/low net for the rest From the Social Committee Chair, Meredith Becker: Social Chair is out exploring new ideas for the Golf Club! Planning a Summer Pool and BBQ Night in early August, more details will follow shortly. It is not just about golf; it is also about making good friends! From the Rules Chair, Bill Swinney: Did you Know? Rule 17 Penalty Areas Penalty areas are defined by either red or yellow stakes. You may play the ball as it lies with no penalty or play a ball from outside the penalty area by taking penalty relief. From a red staked penalty area, the player has three options: #1. The player may drop a ball outside the penalty area within two club lengths of where the ball entered but no closer to the hole; #2. The player may go back as far as they want keeping the point where the ball entered the penalty area and the hole in line; and #3. The player may replay the shot from where it was last hit. There are no yellow staked penalty areas on the Hemet Golf Club course. Now Bill, where are those yellow stakes? Submitted by the Hemet Four Seasons Golf Club Secretary, Mike McLaughlin (mikemcla43@aol.com). Tai Chi You are invited to join a wonderful group of folks on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the Ballroom from 9:10 to 10 am for Tai Chi. There is no experience necessary and chairs available as needed. The Harvard Health Medical School reports, "This gentle exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life." There is no charge for the group, and you can come whenever you are available. We follow two videos and then do a set of movements to music. For more information, join us or call Steve or Peggy Cooper at (951) 599-0123.
