The April tournament for Jack and Jill is in the record books. Players were welcomed in the 8 am shotgun start with blue skies and warm weather. Mother Nature brought on full summer weather that was welcomed by all who participated. The event hosted 11 foursomes, providing 44 golfers first place position in two flights in the popular "Pick Your Own Foursome" competition. When the tournament was over, the following posted winning positions for the contest: Winning Teams "A" Flight • 1st - 47.434: Rick Lake, Roswitha Melander, Rich and Bea Brown • 2nd - 48.039: George Herrera, Lisa Schrader, Bruce Ray and Laurie Freres • 3rd - 51.039: Charles Craven, Paula Thompson, Ed King and Barbara Keen "B" Flight • 1st - 43.209: Mike and Leigh Tsumura, John and Jenny Funke • 2nd - 43.217: Terry Lundquist, Sue Jordan, Ken Kawamura and Bonnie Hinman • 3rd - 45.031: Leo Pasco, Peggy Clendenen, Jerry and Pat Caldera Closest to the Pin • #5 - Women, Unclaimed / Men, George Herrera – 10'3" • #15 - Women, Pat Caldera – 11'7" / Men, Terry Lundquist – 11'2" • #16 - Team #12 - Leo Pasco, Peggy Clendenen, Jerry and Pat Caldera – 15'3" The evening banquet retired the logo for The Darwin Award after eight years and launched the Darwin Perpetual Trophy that will provide some lucky golfer the privilege of the company of Darwin for the evening's social event. Darwin Trophy – Person or Team: Dan Beamish Issue: Claimed in March to have scored a winning CTP of 30'11"; actual winner clearly landed 5'4" from the pin. Dan's shot measured 25'7" further from the flag. Our next contest is set for Thursday, June 13, and will be our venue "A & B Format." As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition. Everyone really enjoyed that. We played the front nine twice as the back nine holes were closed due to those holes being aerated. We had a delicious luncheon served by Vanessa. Our tournament director announced the Aces for April — High Handicap was Donita Scott and Low Handicap was Anita Hoetker. Congratulations to them both! We look forward to having good golfing weather for a while now and hope it won't get too hot. We tee off at 8 am through June.
