28 | THE COLONY NEWS | JULY 2024 | Colony Chorus By Ken Luekens The Chorus spring concert has come and gone, with sellouts for both days. I hope you did not miss it. Several people have said it was the best concert yet. It was great fun for both the audience and the Chorus. Fun because there was a live band on stage and it was all Beatles music. Often the audience was singing along. Thank you for all the support. Many of us are still feeling good about that concert. To share that feeling, we're inviting residents to meet us and learn more about the Chorus at a "Meet and Greet" on Sunday, Aug.11, from 3 to 5 pm in the Clubhouse Lounge. Meet us and our very creative director, make new friends and talk about music. And, of course, we will have finger foods and beverages. We have started working on music for the upcoming Christmas concert. If you are thinking about attending, it is not too early to save the dates – Saturday, Dec 7, at 7 pm and Sunday, Dec 8, at 3 pm. We have a theme picked out and a few songs selected, but that will remain top secret for a few months. For those of you who like to sing, now is a great time to consider joining the Chorus. For that, just show up at our practice. Our regular practice time is on Thursday mornings from 9 to 11:30, with our first one on Thursday, Sept. 5. No audition necessary. Join us, I think you'll enjoy it. I'm sure you'll make friends and have fun. We hope to see you on Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Meet and Greet, and on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 9 am for our first practice. Enjoy your summer, and sing whenever you get a chance. Most of us love music, but we probably do not realize how valuable it is to our mental health and happiness. According to AARP Magazine, many studies show that music's power affects us both psychologically and physically. Singing with others causes the brain to secrete oxytocin, which creates warm sensations of bonding, unity, security and awe, and it can alleviate pain and anxiety. When you play and sing with others, it is very difficult to feel bad! We would love to have you get some oxytocin with us any Friday at 1 pm in the Annex. We can teach you how to play this easy instrument and you can sing and laugh with us. You can call me for more information. Strummers By Judy Moore, 949-468-7375
