| SUN CITY CORE COURIER | SEPTEMBER 2024 | 13 SCCA HORSESHOE CLUB LOOKING FOR PLAYERS The SCCA Horseshoe Club is looking for new players, whether or not you have ever played before. Have you ever bowled? If you have, then you can pitch horseshoes. Can you handle a two-pound or two-and-a-half-pound weight in your hand? If you can, then you can pitch horseshoes. Are you interested in exercising your upper body muscles and/or meeting new friends from the area over some mild competition? If so, horseshoes may be your ticket to some fun! You don't have to be an experienced player. We have players ranging from first-year players all the way up to championship caliber. Come check us out! We'll be happy to answer any questions about the game, where we can currently practice and play, or anything else you can think of asking about our wonderful sport and how you can join us. Please contact Bruce Flowers, Vice-President of the SCCA Horseshoe Club, at 760-224-8946 or at his email address: bruceflowers21@gmail.com. GARDEN CLUB GEARS UP FOR A NEW SEASON Garden Club: The next meeting of the Garden Club will be Tues., Sept. 17, beginning at 10 am. Sign in, enjoy refreshments, see our plant table, view the Treasure Table (donated items are raffled), and visit with other members. Each meeting also has a raffle for door prizes. Meetings are always the third Tuesday of every month, from September to June. Our End of Season party in June was a great success with our pirate theme, catered lunch, and live music. It was fun for us all (see pictures below)! Although we don't meet in July and August, we're busily planning our September to June year. We have many activities planned, including another local botanical garden tour, a beekeeper, master Gardener, water-wise gardening and much more. Come join the fun and learn all you can to create a garden oasis in our desert community. The raffle winner of the beautiful stained-glass window was our esteemed President Jennifer Lopez! Well-deserved! Jennifer works very hard to create a fun environment. The stained glass was donated by two of our club members: Vlad and Deanna Voytillas. The funds raised helps with the costs of our wonderful speakers. Thank you! Our home tour is planned for April 2025, so don't miss out seeing what some of our members have planted and done to enhance their individual landscapes. There are so many gorgeous yards that are drought-tolerant that provide many benefits. Call us if you'd like to join the tour! Did you know that bees not only produce delicious honey, but they can also actually communicate and learn? Honey bees can recognize human faces, did you know? They have the same complex cognition that allows humans to pick their friends out of a crowd! Plant flowers, save the bees! We're all about teaching, learning, and working together to make our individual spaces at home as much a paradise as possible. With drought-tolerant landscaping (not just cactus!), a yard can be transformed while using very little water. Come join our President Jennifer Lopez, co-Vice Presidents, Jill Hardy and Valerie Gibson, and Treasurer Camille Susca to learn about the fun things we can do to beautify our surroundings. Come join us! ~ Jill Hardy Garden Club Horseshoe Club
