32 | LIFE IN SOLERA | OCTOBER 2024 | Getting away from the heat During the summer months it gets pretty hot in Beaumont. We decided to accept an offer from another Solera RV member, the Hoffeckers, to join them and head south towards the beach. We left for Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay RV resort in Chula Vista, California. We arrived on a Friday battling the traffic as you could not get in early unless you paid for an early arrival. We managed to get our 5th wheel into site 40 with some help from the neighboring folks. It was extremely nice to feel the cool air while we setup camp. This resort has activities for people of all ages. The resort does offer military discount for booking. They currently have 30 percent off for the rest of the year if you wish to book. There are 103 standard rv sites to accommodate the motorhomes, 5th wheels and travel trailers. They can accommodate your RV upto 45 feet with slideouts on both sides on a concrete pad. They have both 30 and 50 amp pedestals, Cable, Wifi, propane firepit, adirondack chairs, picnic tables and sewer. You can bring your four- legged friends with you. In addition to the Standard RV sites, there are 21 Deluxe and four Elite sites. If you do not have an RV, there are many cabins that are available. Six Bayview one and two bedroom cabins. Bayview cabins have views of the bay where you can see the Coronado bridge and ships. 41 Promenade one and two bedroom cabins. Other amenities include a "Getaway Cafe" servicing food and drinks. Outdoor pool and cabanas. Splash pad, sweetwater marsh bike and walking path, events and activities, a shuttle to the Living Coast Discovery Center, basketball court, bocce ball, playground, pickleball, poolside movies, corn hole, hot tub. laundry room, arcade, billiards, shuffle board, dog park, fitness center, small putting green and a skydeck. Website: RV Resort in San Diego, CA – Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay. While we were there we went to the harbor where the USS Midway was docked and they have a museum you can visit, but you may need more than a day to see it all. We took a boat ride called "Flagship" and cruised the north and south of the harbor. Many military ships were docked mainly at the south harbor. We also visited Liberty Station which has food markets and various boutiques. We got hungry and went to Old Town San Diego to have a Mexican lunch that was very good at Cafe Coyote. We enjoyed our time and the weather while we were there. We hated to come back but did enjoy our own beds as it is always good to be home. ~ Tony Lucchesi RV GROUP
