We had a picnic! Super fun and something quite different from what we usually do. On an August evening, we gathered on the South Clubhouse patio, armed with homemade appetizers, main dishes, salads, and desserts. It was quite pleasant out there on the patio, with a very nice breeze blowing through. We had planned on playing one of our favorite dice games, Farkle, but as we chatted through the evening, we suddenly realized twilight was upon us, so we decided to just head home. Next time! One day recently, as Elaine Perkins was strolling through Hobby Lobby, she ran across a cute little nutcracker just waiting to be decorated with paint and bling. As we had been trying to come up with a make 'n take project for the holidays, she thought this might be just the perfect thing. She purchased it and brought it to our meeting to share her idea. We all approved and of course headed to the store while all Christmas items were 50 percent off. Once there, we discovered there were different nutcrackers from which to choose. Decisions! We will be doing our project towards the end of this month, either Oct. 21 or 28. We will most likely be donating our masterpieces to the Banning Senior Center shopping experience for children at Christmas time. It is a wonderful event, and the kids love shopping for their parents, brothers and sisters, and even pets! At one of our September meetings, Denise Winfield brought in an adorable paper pumpkin she crafted out of book pages. She demonstrated how to put them together. This would be a great fall project. We meet each Monday from 1 to 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. The only exception is the second Monday, when we meet from 11 am to 1 pm. Mark your calendars for project day, Oct. 21 or 28. Don't forget to purchase your nutcracker! Our birthday lunch will be on Thurs., Oct. 10 at 11:30 am in the Main Clubhouse Restaurant. Contacts for this group are Elaine Perkins (951) 334-3119 or Sallie Flesher (951) 902-9768. Paper Crafting 28 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2024 | Fiber Artists Fiber Artists is not just a group that makes blankets for Kaiser Fontana Hospital. Our knitters and crocheters make microwave bowls, coasters, potholders, sweaters, and even dolls. We can teach you how to make simple things for gift giving or for yourself. We meet every Monday at 12:30 pm in the North Clubhouse, except on the third Monday of the month when we meet at 11:30 am. On the second Monday of the month, we share our leftover yarns and tools. On the last Monday of the month, we have a potluck lunch.
