30 | THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2024 |
Happy, merry, joyful, warm holiday greetings! If you haven't
completed (or started) your gift-giving shopping, here are some
suggestions for the pickleball addicts in your life.
Wikipedia defines addiction as a neuropsychological disorder
characterized by a persistent and intense urge to engage in a behavior
that produces natural reward, despite substantial harm and other
negative consequences. If this sounds like a pickleball player in
your life, who insists on heading out of a warm, cozy home on those
40-degree mornings dressed in a light jacket, hat and gloves to run
around on a court with a paddle in hand, chasing a ball with holes in
it and returns home hours later full of mood-improving endorphins,
join the club! With the surge in the popularity of pickleball, we can
find everything from keychains, fashionable clothes, paddles, balls,
water bottles, and even wine glasses everywhere we shop. And for
the real addicts, you can deck out your Christmas tree with pickleball
ornaments while wearing your pickleball PJs and sipping hot
chocolate from your pickleball mug!
If you aren't addicted yet, we hope you will join us on the courts.
We play every morning beginning at 7 — hey, we're addicts! Plus,
it's a great, healthy resolution to try something fun and new in 2025.
As always, I'll be happy to teach anyone the basics of the game at no
charge. Looking forward to seeing you on the courts!
