6 | LIFE IN SOLERA | FEBRUARY 2025 | Solera CERT Cadre Greetings from your Solera Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). In January, the Solera CERT Team sponsored the "How to Make an Evacuation Plan/Shelter in Place class. The class was well attended with about forty -five Solera residents and community emergency partners in attendance. The classes for focused on learning how to make emergency evacuation plans and how to safely prepare for evacuation and shelter in place orders. The class was a success due to the Solera residents attending and participating in the class. Our special guest speaker, Pam Sampson (Solera resident), spoke to the class about her family's evacuation experience during the Old Fire which occurred on Oct. 25, 2003 in nearby San Bernardino. Pam's account of her family's evacuation experience kept me on the edge of my seat. Staffing five display tables were representatives from Solera CERT, Simpler Life Emergency Products, Red Cross, Riverside County Emergency Management Division, and AMR Ambulance. We also had on display a table of handout material. There was a static display of an evacuation kit and two battery packs, also known as solar generators. The AMR lead paramedic spoke to the class about how AMR responds to disasters and routine medical calls. He answered many questions from our resident attendees. While I was the lead instructor for the class, I couldn't have done it without the support from our Recreational Director, Christina Moore. Thank you, Christina for working with me on this project. Clubhouse Monitor Carlos set up the tables and the room exactly how I planned the night before the class allowing my wife and I to set some things up prior to the class. Carlos and the Saturday Clubhouse Monitor George, were extremely patient with my lack of knowledge in regards to the working of the pull-down screen, microphones and lighting. Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help and all you do for our community. I want to commend John Haight (Solera resident and all-around good guy). John came early and asked what he could do to help. I quickly put him and his organizational talents to work. Thanks John. And last but not least, my wonderful and talented wife Debbie for setting up the food table and coffee bar. Debbie also staffed the check-in table. She was truly the brains behind the guy holding the microphone. And one more shout out to our wonderful Solera residents who decided to spend their first morning of the new year learning to better prepare themselves and the Solera community when disaster strikes. Thank you for your attendance and participation. You folks are the best! The Solera CERT Team routinely holds several community preparedness classes during the year. Keep an eye and ear open for future classes. With our Red Cross representative, we are looking at some dates in the future for first-aid and CPR/AED training sessions. There will be a cost to these classes, but I believe the cost is well worth it. Please let me know if you are interested in a basic first -aid course and or a CPR/AED course. ~ Ron Monroe, Acting CERT Team Leader, (909) 732-6139, ronoap@aol.com, www. solera-cert.info
