Racquet Club
Positive memories from the prolonged COVID shutdown are
few, but for the Racquet Club, the reservation system created for
booking the courts was transformative. Antsy from being cooped
up at home, our club board at the time got to work nding an
online scheduling solution –Skedda–that persuaded the Master
Board to unlock court gates and let us get back to playing in twos
and fours. It's also proven instrumental in helping us create and
manage the explosive growth of pickleball.
e "no reservation required, just show up at the courts with
your paddle" morning drop-ins is the preferred way to play for
many. Six courts are blocked from 9 - 11 am, six days a week (and
until noon on Saturdays). Play according to skill level: show up
when you want, stay as long as you wish, and ll the wait time
catching up with friends and making new ones. at's Pickleball
101. Remember this important rule–no guests at morning drop-
in. It's residents only.
Much of the remaining daily court calendar consists of "private
games" booked at least 12 hours in advance. is is the best
option for including guests – but no more than four per resident
with the resident required to remain at the courts with the guests
the entire time. Many of us enjoy playing regularly with the same
group (and sometimes nish up those games with a happy hour)
which requires us to use our free Skedda smart phone app to
book next week's game exactly seven days ahead. Pickleball class
scheduling maximizes the use of the courts during quieter times
of the day, and we all work around the rotating schedule for court
power-washing (every other week). Periodically there are court
events exclusively for club members. But remember–anytime you
see an open block of time on the daily court schedule, just walk
on. e court is yours until the following hour. Contact the Help
Desk for more information.
