28 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2025 | Art League Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa to all our Sun Lakes friends and neighbors from The Art League. We hope this beautiful season is filled with good tidings of comfort and joy! December finds the Art League dark with no meetings. However on Dec. 5, we will host a holiday- themed Decoupage Party with refreshments and all materials provided. The cost is $20. We will gather from 11 am to 3 pm in the North Clubhouse. Please call Betsy Voss at (951) 675-0122 or Marcy McCallister at (909) 643-9271 for reservations and more details. This fun, popular activity is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. We hope to see you there! Our November fundraising concert featuring the Chicago tribute band, The Pasadena Transit Authority, was a big success (photo at right). Thank you to everyone who participated. Special thanks to Dave and Carol Henke for coordinating the event. Thanks again to artists Chuck McCracken (watercolor, October) and Carol Cole (abstract, November) for leading us in inspiring and creative learning experiences. We look forward to starting new classes in January — more details to come. October's mini art show winners are: Classic Art: first place, Don Foster with four nature scenes in acrylics; second place, Frank Bonarigo's acrylic painting of an old Spanish mission; third place, Betty Jo Ford's oil painting of a young boy. Miscellaneous Art: first (and only) place, Pattie Rogers' fish made with cut paper. Our membership drive for returning and new members will take place in January 2026. Anyone who renews or joins that month will be entered into a drawing for a nice prize. Membership remains just $20 per year, entitling you to discounts on classes and workshops. We look forward to welcoming back our current members and greeting new ones. Helen Searcy, Membership Chairperson, is happy to answer questions at (951) 845-8198 or at the meeting. "Winter reminds us that everyone needs some quiet time." ~ Katerina Mayer Take that time to get creative. ~ Pattie Rogers Road to Versailles at Louveciennes by Camille Pissarro: Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French painter and one of the founders and most famous of the Impressionist painters. In 1869, he moved from the suburbs of Paris to Louveciennes. As many Impressionist painters did, he chose one motif and painted it numerous times, in dierent seasons and times of the day. One of his favorite subjects was the road to Versailles, which he depicted in this winter- themed painting. Like some other Impressionist winter paintings, Pissarro captures winter with so brushstrokes and pastel colors. All the houses are painted with a subtle ochre hue, creating a pleasing contrast with the darker, bare trees around them.
