30 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2025 | Pet Lovers Club Pet Lovers Club Annual Meeting And Presentation Bill Toome, Founder, Project EcoLife Conservation The Pet Lovers Club held a brief Annual business meeting on Nov. 1, then opened it to the community for our presenters. The PLC elected our new Treasurer, Jana Felej, to serve until Dec. 31, 2026. This year the PLC plans to make donations to 13 organizations serving pets in need in our county. Separately, PLC President Ellen Kippel reported that we have started collecting articles and money for our Fifth Annual Presents For Pets for Meals-on-Wheels clients with pets in Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad and San Marcos areas. Donations of checks to OHCC Pet Lovers Club, gift cards for Petsmart and Petco, dog and cat toys for 36 clients can be left at Ellen Kippel's house, 4909 Tilos Way. With help from the Monarch Butterf ly Club, we opened our meeting to members of that club and the rest of the community and 61 people attended. We were treated to a fascinating presentation by Bill Toome, founder and Executive Director of Project EcoLife Conservation. Titled "The Roar of the Monarch," Bill described the migrations of the monarch butterf ly, the largest species migration in the world. Bill wove the threads of interdependence between migrating monarchs, the ecology of the plants and trees that comprise their habitat, and human beings. In the area of Michoacan, Mexico, where western monarchs gather by the millions in winter in certain trees, local people were illegally logging those trees for firewood for cooking. Indoor smoke from the wood stoves endangered the health of people. By introducing - and having people accept - 13,500 alternative cooking stoves, Bill's U.S. and local teams have saved half a million trees, partially restored winter habitat for monarchs, and enhanced the lives of nearly 100,000 people. Written by Ellen Kippel and Karen Hasting In October, The OH Wine Tasting Club had their social and election event. Faced with cleaning the tablecloths, I asked Chat GPT how to get red wine stains out and this is what was generated: Every wine lover has been there the laughter is flowing, the glasses are full, and then… a splash of red wine lands squarely on your beautiful white tablecloth. While it may look disastrous, a red wine spill doesn't have to spell the end of your linens. With quick action and a few tried-and-true tricks, you can lift that stain and save your tablecloth for the next celebration. Act Quickly: When it comes to red wine, speed is everything. As soon as the spill happens, gently blot — never rub — the stain with a clean white cloth or paper towel to absorb as much liquid as possible. Rubbing only pushes the wine deeper into the fabric fibers. Next, rinse from the back side of the fabric under cold running water. This helps flush the wine out rather than driving it in further. Household Heroes: You don't need fancy cleaners to tackle a wine stain — just a few household staples. • Salt: For fresh stains, cover the spot generously with table salt. The salt will begin to draw the red pigment out of the fabric. After 10 minutes, rinse with cold water and wash as usual. • Club Soda: Pour directly onto the stain and blot gently. The carbonation helps lift the wine. • Dish Soap & Hydrogen Peroxide: Mix one part dish soap with two parts hydrogen peroxide and dab onto the area. Let sit for 10–15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. If the stain lingers, commercial products like OxiClean or Wine Away can be effective — just follow the directions on the label. Final Rinse: Wash the tablecloth in cold water and air dry. Avoid the dryer until you're sure the stain is gone; heat can set it permanently. Even if the spill is inevitable, the stain doesn't have to be. With a little know-how, your white linens can stay crisp, clean, and ready for the next toast. My vote is for Wine Away. ~ ChatGPT - Jody McDonough, (760) 653-8198, jodyzm@gmail. com Wine Tasting Club Inspiration Hill As we walk the trail at Inspiration Hill, we are always impressed by the varied community inspirations as expressed on the Donor Bricks.
