The Art League wishes our Sun Lakes friends and neighbors a very happy and healthy 2026. As the 6th century BC Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu reminds us, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." This year, take a step into art! As the New Year begins we sadly say "goodbye" to our outgoing President, Betsy Voss. Betsy has been a wonderful spokesperson and supporter of the Art League for the past two years and we are assured that she will continue to contribute her time and talent to promote our club. Thank you! We also welcome our new/returning Board members who will continue to make the Art League a fun, friendly, interactive place to share the joy of art in all forms. Incoming President, David Henke; 1st Vice-President, Shirley Anderson; 2nd Vice-President, Pattie Rogers; Secretary, Carol Graham-Henke; and Treasurer, Judy Grant. Also returning are Helen Searcy, Membership and Aurora Huesca, Hospitality. We look forward to another exciting year ahead. January is membership (new/renewal) month. Anyone who pays their $20 yearly dues during this month will be entered in a drawing for a nice prize. Remember your dues entitle you to discounted classes. Thanks again to Marcy McCallister and Betsy Voss for hosting a fun and creative Decoupage Party in December. Those in attendance had a wonderful experience creating a holiday-inspired masterpiece and sharing some "get in the mood" time together! The November winners of our monthly mini art show are: Classic Art: 1st place Georg Hauschild, watercolor; 2nd place tied, Susan Van Loon and Frank Bonarigo, oil paintings; 3rd place, Lee Munday, watercolor. Miscellaneous Art: 1st place, David Henke, fluid art painting; 2nd place, Brenda Pike, paint by number; 3rd place, Lora Huizinga, textile cross stitch. Congratulations! Thank you to all who participated. Please join us this month for our general meeting on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. Alfred Sisley was a British Impressionist painter who lived in France for most of his life. Along with Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro, Sisley was one of the few artists to dedicate his whole life to Impressionist landscape painting en plein air. Sisley created many winter images, including Snow at Louveciennes, which depicts a snow-covered road vanishing into the distance and being inhabited by a single tiny figure. Art League
