58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2026 | Fun Bocce Factoid: Notable bocce players have included the Roman Emperor Augustus, the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, and the astronomer Galileo. And now, members of Sun Lakes Friends of Bocce join this prestigious company. Our long winter break will soon end, and we will return to courts that have undergone many improvements. Three spectator benches have been added to accommodate our bocce fans. Most importantly, rubber bumpers have been installed on the side boards of all three courts. This was made possible by the generous donations of our membership. Dennis Field and Lloyd Dana (pictured at right) provided the installation labor, working four to five hours for 13 days. Thank you, gentlemen. The Board welcomes our newest member, Dianne Stigall. Many of you know Dianne as the organizer of Saturday bocce practice. Everyone is welcome to join the Saturday play, which begins at 9:30 am. Please contact Dianne at (951) 216-5219 if you plan to come on any Saturday. This is a good opportunity to try out the new side boards. Annual membership dues will remain at $12 per person and are due in January 2026. You cannot sub or play on a team without being a paid annual member. Checks should be made payable to Friends of Bocce and dropped off at 1288 Pleasant Valley Ave. Sign-ups for the Winter/Spring tournament are due by Feb. 6. Sign-up cards are available in the cabinet at the bocce courts. Please be sure to include names, phone numbers, and email addresses for your team members. The cost of a tournament is $3 per player on the team; if dues need to be paid, an additional $12 pp. Good luck to everyone. Let's have a great 2026 season! Friends of Bocce
