I am honored to serve as a current member of the Sun Lakes Master Board. Sun Lakes is more than a neighborhood-it is a shared investment. Like any successful organization, it depends on careful planning, strong financial oversight, and leaders who protect today's resources while preparing for tomorrow. I bring 35 years of business and financial experience, having worked in the corporate offices of two major multimillion-dollar companies. My background includes serving as an accounting supervisor and manager overseeing inventory control for two warehouses, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, audits, and collections. This experience has trained me to ask the right questions, follow the details, and ensure accountability-skills essential to responsible HOA governance. My commitment to Sun Lakes is long-standing and hands-on. I currently serve as a Master Board Member and Treasurer and previously spent six years as Chair and Vice Chair of the Financial Advisory Committee. I have also served as President and Vice President of the Lakeside 2 Condo Association and as a member of the Common Area Committee. These roles have given me a broad understanding of our financial health, operations, and resident priorities. If elected, my goals remain clear: • Carefully review monthly financials and report openly to the community • I support expanding the Master Board from five to seven members • Committed to maintaining our common areas and amenities at the highest standard, • Improve staff efficiency through updated technology • Clearly reporting reserve expenditures • Evaluate the management company's performance I respectfully ask for your vote so I may continue serving our community. Thank you. Vote MaryJo McElwain For SLCC Board Ron Smith was born and raised in San Bernardino, CA. He moved to the Sun Lakes Community in 2018 with his wife of 45 years, Mendy. Ron and Mendy have raised 2 children and now have 3 grandchildren. All living in Beaumont, CA. Mendy is retired, having worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. Ron has owned and operated his own business since 1976, as a licensed Painting Contractor. He continues working part time with his Son, who is the 5th generation in the family business of Painting Contracting. Both Ron and Mendy love living in the Sun Lakes community. Both are avid golfers. Ron has been involved in the Men's Golf Club Board for 7 years, having served as President of the Club for the past 3 years. This is a position that he continues to hold. Ron and Mendy enjoy many of the activities that Sun Lakes offers. The primary thing that Ron will bring to the Master Board is common sense. As a business owner, working very closely with the public for many years, he has a vast understanding of the pride and security that people have in not only their homes, but in their community at large. Ron avoids making promises but rather goes into every situation with an open mind. This will allow Ron to make determinations on the Master Board issues with the residents of Sun Lakes alone, in mind. I was born and raised in Orange County, California. I began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1984 and dedicated over 37 years to public service. I have been with my wife, Laura, for over 18 years. Together we have five children and five beautiful grandchildren who live in Southern California and Washington. I enjoy golfing, watching movies, and spending quiet time with Laura. We moved to Sun Lakes in September 2020, but my parents, Hercules and Wanda, have lived here since 1989. Because of that, I have seen Sun Lakes through both good times and challenging times. What has always remained constant is my love for the people and the many activities that make Sun Lakes such a special community. Professional Experience During my 37-year career with the Postal Service, I served as a clerk, carrier, supervisor, manager, and in special projects. I managed a two-million-dollar post office and also helped restructure postal operations throughout our district. These roles gave me strong leadership, budgeting, and problem-solving experience. When Elected I believe I can contribute greatly to our community. I will bring together all available resources within our community and, when needed, from outside as well. By using sound business practices, new ideas, and always operating with transparency, integrity, and common sense, I will continue to bring a practical and thoughtful approach to current and future issues. I will work closely with residents every day to represent your needs to the best of my ability. I pledge to always do what is best for all of us, not just some of us. I will always remember that this is about all of us - the Sun Lakes Country Club community. Candidate Statement Candidate Statement Candidate Statement 12 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2026 |
