QUILTERS
Recently, the Solera Quilters continued their
giving ways by making a lovely fall quilt. We
each made a colorful fall block to add to the
beautiful quilt. Sue Diamond headed up the
project, put the blocks together and did the
binding for us. Then Judy Bendel quilted it for
us. It's going to a local church attended by one
of our members. Judy and Sue pictured here.
Our next project will be to make up a small
block of our choice using scraps. One lucky
quilter will win them! When they are all sewn
together by the winner, that quilt will also be
donated. Contributing to our community is
"SEW" important to us!
Also, the March Craft Fair will find another
of our donation quilts. We are hoping to
raise more money for the Support Our Troops
postage fund. Please stop by our booth for a
chance to win this beautiful quilt!
Hi, My name is Caryl K and I write the articles for the Solera Sun for our Knit
and Crochet group. Knitting, crocheting and conversation is what we love to do. I
am wearing an acrylic sweater recently completed from yarn donated to our group.
Acrylic yarns are easy to work with and come in so many colors and textures.
Yarns not familiar to most and considered exotic yarns include Quiviut (musk ox),
bamboo, bison, guanaco, yak, vicuña. Expensive and rare to find. A more common
beautiful yarn that is affordable and attainable is alpaca and other materials can be
blended with it and is a nice, soft yarn to use and wear and not scratchy like wool.
So if you're into a new hobby, come see us and give knitting or crocheting a try on
Thursdays, 10 am to noon.
